    SSD No Depth/Dimension

Hey dudes, I really like the sound of the Slate samples, but recently I checked out an old mix I did with Superior and the drums had this incredible 3D quality to them, that I haven't been able to achieve with slate. I feel like i'm missing something, because so many people use slate drums and...

    100% Consistent Backing Tracks TUTORIAL

100% Consistent Backing Tracks Tutorial It was a complete nightmare getting backing tracks working and completely reliable, but I finally found a working method, so I thought i'd share it. (i know there are other tutorials, but they were missing things) WHAT YOU NEED: Ipod / mp3 player...

    Click Coming Through The PA

I just checked both the .wav and .mp3 versions of my backing tracks, 100% click free on the left side. i think i might try this as the splitter http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC748ZM/A/apple-composite-av-cable because I really don't trust my splitter or headphone jack. It seems like...

    Click Coming Through The PA

I actually came across a tip today about getting a splitter that goes through the USB jack on the ipod instead of the headphone jack, I think I might try that cause it seems like the headphone jack type of splitter isn't reliable. If I ever find a completely reliable method that doesn't involve...

    Click Coming Through The PA

Well the mono to stereo adaptor is because I was only getting the click in one earbud and it wasn't loud enough, so the mono to stereo made the click come from both sides of my headphones. I'll test it out right now and see if removing that piece fixes it though EDIT: Nope, doesn't help. My...

    Click Coming Through The PA

No, its definitely somewhere in the cables. Tracks are 100% left and click is 100% right, then it gets split into mono L and mono R. L > DI > PA R > mono to stereo adaptor > 1/4" to 1/8" adaptor > my headphones. Idk. If theres some little interface or something that would be more reliable than...

    Click Coming Through The PA

Hey so I have this weird problem where my click tracks keep coming through the PA. I have an ipod > splitter to mono L and R > PA / Headphones. But for some reason my setup is really unreliable, and sometimes you can hear the click through the PA(pretty quietly). I replaced my ipod, headphones...

    Clearing Up a Dense Mix

Haha I should have expected the guitars, my band is always like "louder guitars, brighter guitars, I can't hear the guitars, more guitars." I guess it's hard not to get caught up in that. Anyways, heres a mix with a lot less fizz. Any better...

Limiter reduction on snare peak or full mix?

Use two limiters, one for the snare (and whatever else) that peaks much higher than the rest of the mix, and one for the rest. The 2nd one will be able to function better without that snare fucking it up. Also +1 to gearman for the clearing out frequencies for the snare to fit in, cause that's...

    Clearing Up a Dense Mix

Hey guys, so i'm having a hard time clearing up a mix and getting it to breathe without losing too much power. My best guess is that either the instruments are occupying too wide of frequency range, or that its just low mid build-up. The problem is that when I try to give each instrument it's...

Looking for critiques on a post-hardcore mix

Here's an updated version: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/w4xpskq6gcdexzx/0.%20New%20Snare%20and%20Room.mp3 I think both the cymbals and snare are a lot better now

Looking for critiques on a post-hardcore mix

Yeahh those cymbals are definitely washy - I might have compressed the room and OH too much. But i'm using SSD for the drums, and so far its been really difficult to get a good cymbal sound out of programmed drums haha. And I think that snare is being clipped too much, which is making the high...

Looking for critiques on a post-hardcore mix

Hey guys, i've been mixing this intro song, and im ok with the results but I don't particularly like them lol. (feels too dense, maybe too loud, guitars somehow feel too up front / present) This was the best I could come up with though. Can you give some feedback to help me improve...

    specific questions about this mix

The kick and bass are sounding good, but I think the guitar tone is whats holding this mix back. Sounds kind-of boxy / dead. Try boosting em by 1 or 2 dB and getting some more treble in there.

    Rate my new mix?

This sounds pretty muddy, you might wanna take a look at the low end especially on the guitars/bass. The kick could cut through a little more (sounds like its fighting the bass) and it sounds like the guitars have too much low end. Maybe move the high pass up a bit?
