    new to symphony x

I checked out a pack of songs and I must say that my respect for Symphony X is growing all the time, the first songs i heard where defiantely weak in comparisong to their newer stuff. I'm still not a fan but this is a good start. Thanks for all the suggestions, I appreciete it.

I have only heard 2 songs by symphony x sofar which are : Taunting the notorious and A lesson before dying. And I can't say I see the greatness in this band yet, any other songs I should check out before making a final judgement?

What do fellow Symphony X fans think of these prog bands?

I agree, trule excellent band and they even teach Symphony X a think or two. For thoose who are into the more heavy technical music here is a few bands which are a must : Cynic - Sounds abit like allan holdsworth meets technical death metal, pure brilliance. Spastic Ink - Supertechnical...

I've never heard of Devin Townsend

Symphony X are powermetal with some prog in it and a vocalist who is the metal version of Queen. But in the end they are rather straightforward, sure they have fast solos but compare this band to Allan Holdsworth or Spastic Ink and you see things in a different light.

Steve I've got a question for you.

After watching the live in metropolis video my respect for John Myung went increased alot, he looked like the only musician on stage that where focused on the music rather than acting like a clown. And sure, his basslines are not what they could be but he is still an amazing bassplayer.

    Aquanet mp3 available now

The vocals in Watchtower used to bother me alot but I got passes it and now I even enjoy them. I think that it could be alot worse, like Symhpony X or so... So I'm just happy that it's not a big problem. I think DT is in a completely different world of music, it's like comparing Yngwie...

    Instrumental/Math/Prog/Metal

Sounds good, reminded me of a slower lethargy with some dysrhythmia influences (don't ask me why but I just thought about thoose 2 bands when listening to it). So good work!

    Cool tech metal band

It's all right, maybe I came off sounding bad too, but I see your point and you are absolutely correct. And even at triplet speed you can still do it with your fingers so its all good. Being banned from the forum was one of the reasons, but at the same point I stopped visiting forums like...

    Cool tech metal band

Well, triplet 8th's at 240bpm is another story though, and they do have sections with thoose for bass.
