    Your latest G.A.S. purchases

A recently purchased a very good and underated unit : TFpro M16. 16 transformer pres designed by Ted Fletcher, with summing possibilities. I got it for almost nothing, and I used it recently for recording a guitar cabinet. Very neutral, precise, round and rich. A very good surprise !

The Panic Room, Mastering Class 101 #2: Monitoring & Objectivity

Very interesting post, Plec, and very logical conclusions. I just have another question : in a "not pro" room, what do you think about using several monitoring systems, i. e. two or three headphone models you like for their different qualities, proximity monitors put at a low level (to avoid...

Systematic Mixing Series #2: In Soviet Russia, Drums Slam You

Agree with the last two posts. As a passionnate man, I NEED to know how other people work, especialy about SOUND and TONE. Recording, mixing and mastering is not only a question of technical skills. It's like cooking I think: at a certain level, when you are demanding, it becomes an art. In...

Systematic Mixing Series #2: In Soviet Russia, Drums Slam You

Thanks a lot for this very useful and clever guide. It gave me the idea about writting something I could entitle : "how to record pro sounding songs with awful conditions". Anyway, I'm always pleased to read papers and advices put online on this forum, because it's always a mixture of good...

    Tube Screamer FAQ Version 1

I just bought the Benrod Classic Screamer, which is a replica of the old good TS808 with the magic chip inside. This pedal also got a true bypass, is absolutely silent (!) - no noise at all, and hand made. And it's sound truly amazing ! Arnaud

How do you record Metal guitars?

There are two solutions to your problem. In the options of Reaper (which I don't use, so I these are just expectations), you might have the choice between several monitoring modes. Or maybe the soundcard you are working with allows you to choose the monitoring mode (use the mix software of the...

How do you record Metal guitars?

Do you use software/effect monitoring (sound after being effected), hardware monitoring (sound BEFORE being effected) or a mixed monitoring ? Id you still hear the clean guitar, it is because you still can hear the unprocessed signal while recording. I think the trouble disappears while the...

Need some feedback on this one

Well, thanks for the feedback. All your words are very interesting and inspiring to me. I had a lot of difficulties to make this fuckin' snare sound the way I want. The sample I used, though, is a very good one, and I used it on several other prods. I usually mix it with the natural snare (the...

Need some feedback on this one

No one wanting to help my ears and give me some feedback ? Is it sooo perfect :muahaha: ? Don't hesitate to be even cruel with me. Listening to it again, I think everything lacks a bit of substance, of flesh. I may need some tips to fix it. :Smokedev: I'm waiting for your comments.

How do you record Metal guitars?

I personaly use Softube Metal Amp room, which is a wonderful tool, and very easy to use. I find it more natural sounding than the POD. Maybe you should also try the LEPOU plugins (freeware). Some sneapsters here use them with great result.
