Very surprised to see Threshold at number 20. For me, it's the AOTY in any genre, but definitely in the power/prog scene, which suffered mightily in 2017 compared to other genres (death metal especially, which kicked so much ass this year with Ascended Dead, The Ominous Circle etc).

I haven't really been impressed with much power metal this year. The Kingslayer album is awesome, but that's it. It's been a far better year for progressive metal, with Threshold leading the way with the best album so far this year in any genre, Legends of the Shires.

The new Ascended Dead record is by far some of the best death metal I've heard this year. Better than The Ominous Circle (different, but still better) and right up there with Azarath. Has anyone heard it?

The new Cromonic album is easily the best pm released this year. Well worth checking out. Fantastic song writing.

Man...so much hype. It's good, but worthy of all that praise? I don't think so. It's cohesive but doesn't really do anything to set itself apart from other similar bands. Just my thoughts.

Heretoir is fucking fantastic and I highly recommend it.

That Power Trip record is pretty much crushing everything out there so far. That, and Dodecahedron have to be the best this year but lots of good stuff out recently like The Omnious Circle, Shaarimoth, Grima, Lockup, Heretoir, Cover of Night, Lantern, Morta Skuld, Schattenvald, etc.

Steppenwolfen, Hendrix, LZ and Deep Purple, and The fucking Who are metal....? wtf?

Everyone raves about Om, but I never really saw the hype....
