Recommend me Some "Good" Death Metal

Unlike perhaps a few people on this forum, death metal doesn't exactly run my life but Cannibal Corpse are good stuff. The thing with US bands such as CC and Deicide (though I'm all that fond of the latter) is that while they, like more accessible European bands such as Necrophagist, Opeth and...

    King Crimson

I would have thought Iron Butterfly brought out something before them. The jazzy middle section of that song is awesome though.

    All the new Opeth fans

I'm a better Opeth fan than you

    My Arms, Your Purse

Arselicking aside... yeah, really cool avatar.

    Quick question about heavyness, like.

I don't see why everybody is having a dig at "The Grand Conjuration". Ghost Reveries is verging on being Opeth's weakest album but "The Grand Conjuration" and "Reverie/Harlequin Forest" stand out as excellent tracks.

    Film Soundtracks

I got that box set. The score for Aguirre: Wrath of God is hypnotic.

    Film Soundtracks

I prefer his Once Upon a Time in America soundtrack to any of his spaghetti Western stuff. It's one of the best film scores I've ever heard. A nod has to go to the Last Emperor soundtrack.

    opeths next album

The end of "Deliverance" was brilliant. Gave the song an epic feel. However they tried to do the same thing with "Harlequin Forest" and it it didn't work as well.

    Best Opeth Album

Now that I've heard their albums... 1.) Deliverance - Their most subtle album, with probably the most difficult time signatures. Only weak spot is "By the Pain I See in Others" 2.) Blackwater Park - For atmosphere, clarity and amazing variety in texture and dynamics. 3.) My Arms Your...

    Favorite all time album

Ack, I'm fickle but here goes. Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express Aphex Twin - Selected Works Volume 1 (misleading name btw) Joni Mitchell - Court & Spark Gang of Four - Entertainment Blondie - Parallel Lines Madonna - The Immaculate Collection R.E.M. - Murmur (this album makes me glad to...

    Whats the deal with Metalcore?

Look guys, I don't really "dig" the metal scene to the same extent that a lot of the posters on this board evidently do but what's the fucking deal with associating what you consider to be an inferior form of music (I've barely heard any bands that fit the general criteria for "metalcore" save...

    BLEAK....indeed

I used to hate "Bleak" but now it's one of my favourites. Blackwater Park was the first Opeth album I got, I played "The Leper Affinity" and thought half of it was great then "Bleak" came on and I was like "what's this crap? hardly any growling or death metal brutality". Now I've realised that's...

What bands has Opeth got you into?

Opeth kinda got me into At the Gates, Necrophagist, Emperor and Immortal. I had already liked Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel before. I have no interest in grindcore though. Other prog bands I like are King Crimson, Pink Floyd and Tool though I didn't need Opeth to get me into them either...

    Best Opeth Album

As most of you probably know, I only have Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Ghost Reveries on CD. I've also heard "Black Rose Immortal" from Morningrise which I have to say has far stronger acoustic sections than anything on the aforementioned three albums with a more authentic Scandinavian metal...

    Best Prog Death Metal Band

I don't know if they quite count but Necrophagist are an excellent death metal band with, whose songs bear repeated listens brilliantly.
