    Shining - V: Halmstad

Not sure what you're listening to, but I didn't hear any so-badly-recorded-its-painful-to-listen to noise on this album. It's hard to even classify it as black metal, aside from the fact that the singer sounds a bit Atilla-ish. Nortt is suicidal / depressive / doom BM. This reminds me more of...

    Onslaught - Killing Peace

This is my first exposure to Onslaught, so I can't compare it to their older albums, but I can vouch that it's a damn good retro-thrash album in its own right.

    Over-rated Bands

The first band that came to mind was Khlyst (or however you spell it). Not that they're "rated" but to see money spent by a well-known & respected label to record and promote garbage like that is maddening. It's literally 40 or so minutes of guitar noise, random drum hits and screaming...

    Moonsorrow - V: Hävitetty

Just bought it on iTunes for $1.99 :)

    The New Paradise Lost Album

We're on the same page, but this is as close as they've gotten to the old style since DT. Unless you're ignoring them on principal, give it a shot. There's at least a couple songs that might interest you ("Never for the Damned," in particular).

    The New Paradise Lost Album

It's not their best, but it's the best they've done in a loooooong time. Awfully good. Full review: http://www.deadtide.com/reviews/albums/page.php?id=3874

    Pyrexia

I've only heard "Age of the Wicked" and while it's not a groundbreaking album (nor does it try to be), what's good about it is the amount of energy they captured. They sound like they're about to fall off the rails at any moment, but never do. Kind of a rare thing for that style...

    Mayhem - Ordo Ad Chao

"Chimera" was "lackluster" !??! News to me.

    Megadeth - "United Abominations"

We're just a studio project. I'm in Chicago, but Chad's in Tennesse / Candada and Jon's in London. I haven't heard Midlothian. You guys do any gigs in the city? EDIT: Oh my god, Midlothian is a CITY not a BAND. I'm an ass :)

    Megadeth - "United Abominations"

After recently hearing "That One Night (Live in Argentina)," I couldn't agree more. In his defense, I can't imagine doing anything well while playing those rhythm parts. Still, it's pretty horrendous.

    Megadeth - "United Abominations"

The title track to that album is one of the best metal songs ever written. The opening riff to that track is one of the best riffs ever written. I only heard it about a year ago and my jaw just about hit the floor when that kicked in.

    Your Favorite Viking/Folk Metal Band

Good entries! The correct answer was: Bathory Primordial Manegarm Asmegin Enslaved Thyrfing Skyclad Tyr Thanks for playing ;)

    Over-rated Bands

THANK YOU! I've been saying this from day one with those guys. They're a decent band, but people act like they're the second coming of Christ.

Parts in songs that reminds you of other songs.

Right in the middle of one of Holtz' compositions from "The Planets" suite ("Jupiter" I think) is a Bathory song (can't remember which, but it's Viking-era).

    Coroner anyone?

Another bump for Coroner. "No More Color" and "Grin" are both masterpieces, though of totally different styles. Others are so-so, but you can't touch those two...
