100 Greatest Progressive Rock Artists

your statement was in regards to metalheads. metalheads listen to primarily metal...thus the name. the progressive rock genre has very little to do with metal. you assumed metalheads were getting upset over this above list.

so using your logic...if my statement was off course from your comment...then your comment served no relevant purpose in this thread whatsoever. Only a mere coincidence that this thread had a top 100 list in it. otherwise, my retort made plenty of sense.
Yes I know it has very little to do with metal. Thanks for the heads up. I hear the world isn't square either. I didn't assume anything; metal heads WERE getting upset about it. I was talking about the posts prior to mine. You misunderstood what I said, and labeled me an idiot. There is still no logic in what you did.

no logic in what i did? this is coming from a guy whos post had absolutely no constructive purpose or relevancy to the thread whatsoever. talk about useless posters...

Interesting!

I think the greatest progressive piece of music in history is "A day in the life" by the Beatles. What's that, 5 chord verse, orchestra run, bompa Macca stuff, aahh, 5 chord verse again, orchestra run, piano hit (which we ripped off!) the end! Nothing technical there. The word" progressive" I think should be used in the true meaning of the word, not to describe a whole genre. Altho' I believe I'm the only one who thinks so.

Come to think of it..."Tomorrow never knows"..the whole song is in D, same (great) beat throughout...for 1966 I'd say that song was pretty fucking progressive! Hell, it still is today!

Cheers people
Mike

bangadrian...read the above post...since you obviously dont take my word for it.

Hey dumb dumb, I know you were not talking to me. It's just that when I read that I realised it could apply to you too.

it could apply to everyone here if you just take out the word progressive rock and insert whatever is relevant and inspiring to that person.

ok... mikael takes the word "progressive" literally. so do you. why don't you get married?

and by the way i always said that opeth was progressive. i just wouldn't label them a "progressive rock" band if i were filing cds in a record store.

were not the only two who think of it as literal...but youre free to define it however youd like, lets just drop it.

I read in the liner notes of Sgt Pepper's about the big piano hit at the end...and thought, "Hey, just like 'By the Pain I see in Others'.....Oh, wait a minute!"

Huh? I thought it was at the end of the song Deliverance...

That list is fucked! Opeth is number 49 on the main list and number 7 on the top prog metal artists. I know they are definitely not the most influencial or innovative band ever, but they put their music together so perfectly that they deserve to be (at the least) the top prog metal band. In the main top 100 list, they should be at least maybe 20 or so,...

Dream Theatre are so overrated. I don't see anything special about them...

/end my rant

donny, you are out of your element.

if you actually WATCHED the video, you would know what i'm talking about. mikael is demonstrating how to play "the drapery falls" and the interviewer asks him "what chord is that?"

mikael's just like... "well, uh... it's the one that you get when you put this finger here, and this finger here.."

come back when you know what you're talking about.

wrong, mate. not necessarily
of course i watched that video where they teach "drapery falls" and i know he says he doesnt know the name of that chord. this is REALLY REALLY old news.

we've had this discussion before...i just dont believe mikael when he says he knows nothing about guitar theory. im not sure if you're playing the guitar, but if you did you would probably know that most of opeth's stuff cant be composed just by saying "oh this sounds good" or "hmm let me just put my finger there and a-ha! there!"

but this is irrelevant right now. carry on with the original topic

Starless is better that epitaph imo, but then epitaph was probably more influential, great atmosphere.

Alex from COB? That surprises me, i thought he might know some theory, he is a good guitarist.

That drapery falls video is funny as, nice jam on credence to.

starless and fallen angel both make Red one of KCs best releases easily...but epitaph was the first KC song i heard...and it floored me. its been my favorite since. i talk to the wind and the title track are also amazing tracks.
