George Harrison at The Forum in Inglewood, CA –1974. Harrison had Jim Keltner on drums, Klaus Voorman on Bass and Jesse Edwin Davis on guitar for most of the set with Eric Clapton and Ringo Starr making guest appearances on guitar and drums for the rest of the time. John Lennon was rumored to have been there and was supposed to come out on stage and jam, but he never showed up. Opening act was Ravi Shankar...1 solid hour of Indian sitar music. As soon as he was done and started leaving the stage, the crowd went ballistic because they knew they were only minutes away from Harrison taking the stage. A mini version of “Beatlemania” ensued. Ravi misinterpreted the thunderous applause thinking it was for him and that the crowd dug it, and thanked the audience for such warm love and support and then turned around, sat down and proceeded to play another 90 MINUTES!!!!!!

I second that!! Boston were SO awesome!!! It annoys me that everyone only knows More Than A Feeling cos they had such better songs like Hollyann, Rock & Roll Band, Don't Look Back, Long Time and my personal favourite, Peace Of Mind. Tom Schloz is an amazing guitarist and songwriter!

My first Metal gig was Dio with Black n' Blue on the Holy Diver tour.

FBK mentioned Vengeance Rising Christian Death Metal.I saw those guys twice.Couldn't believe they played such brutal music with lyrics of heavenly praises & all that preaching the singer did.I heard a rumor their singer went crazy & became a satanist & the band became hardcore Black Metal.

Probably just a rumor. Most black metal fans are hostile to the idea of Christians playing that genre, hence motive for spreading that kind of rumor.

I'm probably dating myself here....first major (non-county fair) show was KISS in 1979. I was 12 years old and went with my friend and his parents. I couldn't figure out what that smell was in the arena (cough cough). Strangely enough, my parents let me go to this show but a few years later wouldn't let me see Van Halen because they thought it was too "wild". Fortunately they loosened up by high school and I got to see lots of great shows.
The one thing I remember most about that show was Ace's "chaser light guitar". There is a video here. There are some pics here as well, although the video gives you the best idea of how it works.

Oh, yeah. My first concert was Maiden! Somewhere in Time tour at the Tacoma Dome. I forget who opened. I just remembered the sucked LOL. I think maybe it was the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Then a year later on the 7th Son Tour, Guns and Roses opened and at the time I had never heard of them!

Holy Sh*t! Talk about dating yourself, my Senior prom had booked Quarterflash to play. Thier album came out about 3-4 weeks before and they called and said thier rate had gone from $300 to $1500 (1982)! We told them to FO and booked Juggernaut (hey Alan remember them? they used to open for Rail all the time).
I ended up drunk, stoned and sitting behind the drummer (I knew several of the band members) to avoid being thrown out by my principal. He eventually saw me and kicked me out so (from what my friends tell me) I threw a banquet table at him and informed him that if he ever layed another hand on me he would have to jack off with his feet. The rest of the night is was pretty much a blur :Smokedev:

Never heard that about Vengeance Rising. Stryper went down that road, though...
I still have the cassette tape I bought at that show. It's signed by the band, and you can still see where there are verses in the right column showing the book/verse that that particular lyric came from.
For those that have not heard these guys, they make Sepultura sound a little soft. Thought my head would fall off at that show!
I'll date you one further ..... I remember seeing Quarterflash when they were still called "Seafood Mama". I had a bunch of buddies in a band, "Pirate", who opened for Seafood Mama before they became a high-paid act.
I often wonder what happened to the guys? The singer Larry "Valentine" Smith and I worked on a rather elaborate keyboard "Inversions" program. Cousins Darrin (?) and Michael Hatch I think got signed to the Columbia Label, and another buddy Ronnie "Lights" ran the obvious.

first concert was Weird Al Yankovic & Kip Addotta at the Greek Theatre in LA on 7/26/85 when i was 12. you just can't top a weird al show LOL
next concert wasn't until 12/14/91 when i saw Queensryche at the Long Beach Arena. that's the show where they performed OPERATION MINDCRIME in its entirety.
