2003 is coming to an end...

Best for me is We've Come For You All - Anthrax, then DoD by Iron Maiden. I haven't got any newer extreme stuff this year, only the older Opeth, Death etc.

I think the unanimous Biggest Disappointment of the year will be St Anger. It might have been great, but well, it's just a pile of fucking crap.

Here is mine so far, and I can't see which album scheduled before end of year could penetrate this top 10:

1. Elend - Winds Devouring Men
2. Blut aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God
3. Ephel Duath - The Painter's Palette
4. The Gathering - Souvenirs
5. Opeth - Damnation
6. Cult of Luna - The Beyond
7. Mourning Beloveth - The Sullen Sulcus
8. Burst - Prey on Life
9. Enslaved - Below the Lights
10. Monolithe - Monolithe I

Big letdown:
Edge of Sanity - Crimson II

Minor letdowns:
Septic Flesh - Sumerian Daemons
Virgin Black - Elegant... and Dying

Don´t you think that it´s too early to make a 2003 summary?

Anway, here´s my list:

1) The Gathering - Souvenirs
2) Soilwork - Figure number five
3) Hammerfall - One crimson night
4) Anthrax - We´ve come for you all

DVD:

Nightwish - End of innocence

Old Man's Child - Sacrifice of Vengeance. Kickass record, great keyboard and guitar sound, very memorable.

The record is called "In Defiance Of Existence" and does indeed kick ass. Here are some of my favourite 2003 releases:

Vesania - Firefrost Arcanum
Old Man's Child - In Defiance Of Existence
Carpathian Forest - Defending The Throne Of Evil
Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon
Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja
Solefald - In Harmonia Universali
Blood Red Throne - Affiliated With The Suffering
Terrorgruppe - Fundamental

Deatroyer 666 - Terror Abraxas, is the only release to really impress me so far, which is sad considering last year was so great. Other good albums:

Vital Remains: Dechristianize, Blut Aus Nord: The work which transforms god, Behemoth: Zos Kia Cultis, Nasum: Helvete.

Here's to hoping the new Doomsword is up to standard.

Well, technically it doesn't come out until January, but I'm listening to Akercocke's 'Choronzon' at the moment, and considering how much I loved 'The Goat Of Mendes', I'm sorely disappointed... maybe it'll grow on me, though.

Really? The promo/bio material that Earache sent out with the record says it isn't released until the 19th of January... maybe that's just the UK release date, then.

I think it's starting to grow on me a little more, actually - they seem to have taken on board a lot more influences than just black and death metal this time round - I noticed elements of slow, funeral doom and straight-forward heavy metal in some of the passages, and some strange, deliberately discordant unsettling passages...

Akercocke has finally clicked for me! It took a while, but it makes sense now. They've opened up their remit of influences so widely, it takes a while to get a grip on them, now I love the album.
