GMD Poll: Top 10 Metal Albums of 2003

Holy shit, this year's top 10 was abysmal. I still have to listen to a few of them, but I just listened to that Doomsword record (#7) twice, and how did such a mediocre album beat out some legendary albums of this year? It wasn't bad or anything, just completely meh.

No Runemagick, no Blut Aus Nord, no Crimson II. Is this why Bitencourt left the forums?

I actually think I've listened to that Drudkh album now that I read the list again but I don't get they hype behind that band although I like the band.

Just reinforces my point that GMD is nothing but a mostly doom/trad circle jerk these days

i haven't heard crimson II but if it's anything like crimson I, no thx. i'd have been ok with BaN making it though. i got burnt out on it pretty quickly when it was released and rarely revisit it, but it's pretty cool for what it is. better than some of the other AOTW BM fads of that era.

never heard the runemagick but i seriously doubt it would've made the list in any era of this board. you can bet enslaved would've made it back in the day.

What's up with the WHW hate? It's a great record, the kind of record you listen to while home alone, looking out the window while sipping on a stiff drink or something. It might be cheesy but I think they manage to sound convincing. I get alot more moody listening to Of Empires Forlorn than some whiny Warning (which I also like ofcourse).

I think Traveller as #1 is way overrating, but I guess it is ok as this board just fellates on Slough Feg generally, I mean they are good and all, but not the second coming of Iron Maiden or anything.

For a band so original yet mired in metal history to come out of nowhere in the late 90's and do what they've done and still are doing. Top 5 band for me and always will be.

For a band so original yet mired in metal history to come out of nowhere in the late 90's and do what they've done and still are doing. Top 5 band for me and always will be.

Nothing at all really, I own several of their albums and even listed Traveller in my top 10 here. I would never list them anywhere near a list of best bands ever though. Guess it is a bit of backlash agaist some peoples (like you ) preposterous overrating.

Doom & trad are among my favourite subgenres and yet the only album from the top 10 I've heard in full is DoomSword's. But then my typical experience with bands is skipping forward into a song and dismissing them after 5s because I don't care for the vocals.
