it only got 3 votes and didn't even make the top 30. neither did riot, pestilence, brocas helm, deathrow etc. that sounds like a travesty but when you see the albums above it it doesn't seem so bad tbh. so much classic shit. i'll post the full list tomorrow though, can't be fucked with that tonight. i will make the thread for the next year shortly.

Irae Melanox is one of the albums the in-crowders get right. Kerrang apparently called it a thrash album back in the day anyways and it's faster than South of Heaven so yeah there's objectively no reason to prefer Slayer for this year.

Nothing on that album touches Silent Scream, Ghosts of War, Cleanse the Soul , Live Undead, Behind the Crooked Cross, the title track. Man, that album would have been near flawless if it wasn't for Mandatory Suicide and Read Between the Lines

As far as a direct comparison between Irae Melanox vs. South of Heaven, it seems a little useless. I prefer the later slightly, but both are great representations of their respective styles. Considering the style of IM is far from what you like, hearing you complain about it ranking 4 rings a little empty.

Yeah, you can compare any album ever recorded in any style in that way. That's not saying much.

As for what HBB said, I don't know as I rarely read his posts. Going back and reading it now, his argument seems to be that one magazine incorrectly identified them as fast back in the day, and that one is faster than the other. Pretty weak justification for a comp, by any rational standard.

You rarely like power or progresive metal from what I've seen. So, yes it is kind of a surprise to hear you list to the album.

I'm not really interested in having an unverifiable debate about how many times you've heard the album. Childish pissing contest shit.

That said, the premise of your argument is massively flawed. Most albums can be thoroughly analyzed and grasped within 10-12 listens by most people. After that, there's diminishing returns on what new findigd one "gets" out of relistening to the album. Therefore, the validity of the opinion of someone who has listened to the 10 times and someone who has listened to the album 40 times is negligible.

It was just me saying that it shouldnt have been ranked higher than some of those albums(one being SoH) to which HBB responded with the comparison. And anyway I have absolutely no problem with saying one album is better than the other even though they play different styles of music. I dont know why that part seems to confuse you. I like one album more that the other, i think one is better than the other ... regardless of styles. That shouldn't be so hard to comprehend.

And id say someone who has listened to that album just a few times should not have a valid enough opinion of the band to be including them in "greatest albums of XXXX" lists. And he sure in the hell shouldn't be questioning the opinion of other metal fans who are much more familiar with the album. To say that my complaint is empty because you think i dont like power metal is about as ridiculous as the people who listened to it one or twice and voted for it.

And there is a good amount of power metal that i like. Just not the flowery shit.

Like I said in my last post, you can compare any two albums. You could compare a Britney Spears album and a Bach recording if you want.

My initial point was that comparing the two albums in the context of this game was a little useless. They were separated by only a few points and in the context of the game, are relatively disparate from one another. So, doing a direct comp is a little useless, especially at this point when all the voting has been done. Of course, if you want to do a step-by-step compare and contrast, by all means go for it.

I agree when you're talking about people who have only heard the album one or two times. But that was probably just Zabu. Most people who voted for it have heard it plenty of times and therefore are just as qualified as you are to express their opinion on it.

The essence of action is accomplishment. That song perfectly accomplishes what it sets out to do. War is blunt and vicious and therefore is often (but not exclusively) communicated through art that follows form. Mandatory Suicide is an example of such.
