2011 Music

As an absolute huge Opeth fan, I'm very skeptical in the direction they are taking. I'm one of (what seems) the few that did not like Watershed that much at all and I LOVE all their other stuff. They need Peter and Martin back or something. :

You aren't alone, nearly everything I've heard or read about watershed (including my own opinion) has been quite negative

Really? When it came out everyone was jerking off over it like it was their best album ever, and from what I saw the press and reviews was outstandingly positive. I listened to it over and over, trying to get it to sink in but it never did. I even came back to it months later and listened to the whole album again and...nothing. Heir Apparent is the only song on that album that should be an Opeth song.

Hopefully they heard a lot of the displeased fans and bad reviews about Watershed, maybe the new album won't be such a HUGE dissapointment (imo).

Im going to shock people here with the first few on my list...

Opeth
Åkerfeldt/Wilson project
Morbid Angel - Will it ever be released?
Draconian - Hope they continue with the Kata-influenses.
Amorphis - Loved the latest, better than the previous one imo.
Swallow The Sun! - Probably in 2012 though, but I hope not. New Moon is one of the best albums ever.
Meshuggah
Decapitated
Septicflesh
Torchbearer - Death Meditations!!! 5 years of wait is finally over.
Samael
The Haunted
Bloodbath? Probably not.

+1. Normally I try to avoid being disrespectful about others opinions, but in this case I always make an acceptation being that Varg and his "music" (*note the use of quotations) is such a disgrace to metal and mankind in general. The metal equivalent of the talentless Charles Manson. :Puke: Only one reason why anyone still knows who these two losers are.

I'm not going to defend Varg as an individual; A lot of people tend to worship the guy. I think he's clearly on the insane side- his extremist attitudes and stuff that he says is enough to turn me off entirely. But he never used racism as his lyrical subject and as for black metal, most of his stuff has been highly atmospheric and moody (even extremely beautiful, this coming from a convicted murderer). He creates memorable music through simplicity and repetition, something that a lot of people tend to miscontrue as "talentless"

It's also interesting to hear the burzum stuff now, seeing as he has completely been blocked from the modern metal trends (and how there's pretty much no real black metal scene today.) "Belus" was tepid offering with a couple standout tracks, "Fallen" is way more interesting with much better songwriting; It will rank up with the more honest albums of 2011.

I don't care what the guy did....nor do I care what any band does outside making their music...

I like the 2 new Burzum albums.

Varg is a nutter, murderer and God knows what else. If he wasn't a musician he'd be reviled by anybody.

I'll admit I've not heard his records mind, but he's not really given me the biggest motivation to. There's a lot of bands on my "to listen to" list before him. And I mean a lot.

Temple of the Dog???????????? If it's the band of old, Id be excited (the Seattle band, that is)...

Stuff I'm waiting for:

Opeth
Storm Corrosion
Blackfield
Arch/Matheos
Symphony X
Evergrey
DTP
Fen
Ahab (?)
Dark Suns (?)
Pallas
Pendragon
Cure (?)
Tool
Fates Warning (?)
Rush
Threshold

Probably some others too...
