2014 Shows

Has anyone seen the Children of Bodom / Tyr / Death Angel tour? Decided to catch the Philly show, just because I've been jonesing for a show and I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Yes, I saw it. TYR played a very short set. Only 20 or 25 minutes I think. 5 songs. They were great as they always are, but the show was WAY too short. They didn't even get to play "Hail to the Hammer." Their set seemed more like a tease than a real set.

Death Angel was fantastic. I've seen them many times and this was the best set I've ever seen them play. Sound was right on the money and very high energy. Best band of the night.

Children of Bodom were good, although I've seen better sets from them. Nothing remarkable about their set, but no complaints either.

I recommend the show. Worth your time and ticket price for sure.

Next Monday: Protest the Hero, The Safety Fire, Intervals, Night Verses, and Battlecross. Battlecross I don't care about, Night Verses is ok, and the other three make me giddy. I can't wait.

The way it's looking right now, I have a good chance of being at this one too.

Got The Safety Fire and Protest the Hero shirts, and Intervals' new disc, but sadly Intervals is lacking fatty-size shirts.

I can't wait till my house is done with remodeling so that I can be less fatty.

Got one shirt from Night Verses, Intervals, The Safety Fire, Battlecross, and Protest the Hero. I have a self control issue with merch.

Woo! That was fuckin awesome!

All three bands I went for (Protest the Hero, The Safety Fire, and Intervals) were in top form, and killed it. The guys in TSF and Intervals are super friendly and were generally a blast to hang and chat with. I got to chat with several members of each band for a few minutes and they're great guys. Battlecross, who I have no real interest in, stopped between sets to first berate a guy for losing his glasses in the pit, and then to instruct the crowd to help him find them, and then proceeded to remind him not to wear his damned glasses in the pit.

Anup Sastry was hilariously gracious when some guy got all super starstruck when they talked. He babbled, shook hands, and hugged Anup. The collected band members there, and me for that matter, were all howling with laughter at the whole thing.

All in all it's probably the best show that I've been to that wasn't PPUSA. Oh, and I got to meet OrionSon, who is at least 9 years my junior and made me feel old (not his fault), lol.

Now that I'm back from my 2 hour drive home, I can share my thoughts on that concert as well: intense. A really amazing show from every single band. The only band that didn't grab me as much was The Safety Fire, though I still enjoyed it. One of the guitarists from Battlecross came talk to me at the merch table, and he seemed like a great guy to hang with. Battlecross also became tied for my favorite show of the night when they dedicated a song to Dave Brockie.

The only bad part of the night was my mistake of standing in front of the bass speakers, which killed my hearing, especially when I leaned down to tie a shoe or read my phone. Funniest moment was the singer from Protest making fun of this annoying girl behind me who would keep telling him to shut up and play music when he would tell a story.

Also, I got to meet Mardoch. Which if anything just makes me want September to be here now. I really want those 4 nights of metal in Atlanta. That post on the Facebook about a restaurant nearby didn't help matters.

I'm looking forward to a Lacuna Coil headline show this Sunday 3/30. I know they catch a lot of flak around here but they put on a great show and I dig them :)

Next couple months are slammed with great shows. Midnight, Deathhammer, Sargeist/One Tail One Head/Behexen, 311 x3, possibly MDF, a couple non-Metal festivals, Solstice (the FL one). I also heard Undergang may come here.
