I just saw this on their website. The venue they are playing at here is a mile and a half away from me (total shithole). But in walking distance... Hard to resist

that IS an awesome lineup, but ive already seen Sleep, Pentagram, Earth, Eyehategod, Om, Indian, Earthless, Pallbearer, Tombs, Subrosa, Mammatus, Bell Witch, Ancient Altar, Atriarch, Lords of Beacon House, and maybe some others. many of them multiple times. i would definitely like to see Acid Witch and Wo Fat and some others but oh well.

Oh fuck. To see Agalloch at SLO Brew would be quite a thing. I haven't been there in years, and am long overdue to see the place, along with the city, my favoUrite used book store, and that one neato art shop where I can't afford anything but stare at it all anyhow.

If not, to the Echoplex once again! :kickass:

Here's a tasty little bit of metal gossip for everyone….

The drummer that has been working with Noltem also plays in a band which is based in Ohio. Black/Death stuff. Solstafir is currently heading out on a North American tour, and they had booked my friend's band as the supporting act back in freakin' December. Two days ago (two weeks away from the show), they get a message directly from Solstafir. These Icelandic "heathens" were actually requesting that they change their sound around to sound more "mellow" since they were only planning on playing material from Otta and the previous album. They didn't want a metal band opening for them! What the fuck… I guess the promoter for the venue canceled the entire show after hearing about that, saying that he was "sick of their rockstar bullshit". That is pretty crazy in the first place, but to ask a band to change their sound TWO WEEKS before the show is just totally insane.

Their new album is pretty lame but now I have lost an extreme amount of respect for the band. Apparently antics like this has been pretty regular since they became popular. Oh well, that's the way of the world!

I would like to add that Masterpiece of Bitterness is one of my top 5 metal albums of all time. Who knows what really went down, I wasn't there obviously- but thats the word on the street!

Saw these cats a few months back, twas a good show. They definitely exude the rock star image. One of the guitarists had his hair ala Pippy Longstocking, naval o' showing, gesticulating with every chord, as if it his hip bone was serenading all the ladies, and some of the men. I just kept knocking back cold ones to tolerate it all. The rest of the cadre didn't appear all to masculine comparatively speaking either. For a second I thought I was taking in FairyLand, but Elisa Martin was nowhere to be had.

lol if true

and yes well i hate to be THAT GUY (you know, "i only liked the demos, wheres the fuckin metal") but in this case i think it's true that sólstafir really lost something when they stopped having the hard/soft, clean/harsh, slow/fast contrasts in favour of just being soft and slow all the time. this desolate icelandic post rock shit is getting pretty bland and predictable.

they used to be so fucking awesome when they played fast too, totally chaotic and haphazard and great

i have heard nothing on the last two albums that even comes close to pale rider, visionary head, bloodsoaked velvet, she destroys again, lux fare, the underworld song, er við munum iðrast, &c.

i'm glad they're happy doing what they're doing i guess but it's very likely that svartir sandar was the last album i cared to buy

Definitely true. The last two albums are a total snoozefest.... but like I said, MoB is a true metal masterpiece. The new material does not even compare.

Btw plz check your email
