6 string bassists?

The only band I know of is Primus, and they only use it occassionaly (Primus rules, BTW ). Those things look insane, a big-ass neck with all these fat-ass strings on it. Makes my hand hurt just looking at it...

you might aswell buy a guitar if you have a 6 string bass. 6 string bass players have some weird guitar player envy. thats why they call it bass, as in bass notes. i know some dudes shred on a 6 string bass, but it is usually a guitar line. les claypool played a four string the last time i saw them, geezer plays a 4 string , and when i saw steve digorgio he played a 4 string. i know some of these guys play 5 and 6 strings now, but they always go back to the 4 string. i understand the low b theory, but most bass players tune their basses down anyway.hence why do you need a b string if your already tuned low anyway. and of course, lemmy dont play no 6 string, so thats enough of a reason for me.
