6505, Mesa Cab Tone Test

I bought 6505 and a Mesa standard cab a few days ago and recorded this as a tone test.

Sounds pretty damned solid to my ears! I'd turn the gain down, it's sounding a bit washy in that regard.

I'd have to agree, the high gain is washing things out a touch, but you've got one hell of a good start going on there!

Thanks for the help! I turned down the gain and my tone is sounding tighter and more defined.

Are you running an OD pedal beforehand? If not, try a Maxon to boost the guitar signal & turn the amp gain down even further.

On 5150's, I like the gain down at about 3.5 with a tubescreamer, sometimes 4 if I'm feeling lazy.

I haven't picked up an OD yet... I'm actually sort of confused about the Maxon pedals. I've been searching and reading old posts but I don't have a satisfying answer about which one is the best in terms of tone vs price. It seems the choices are OD9, OD808, and OD820. Would something like an Ibanez TS7 be just as good?

No, not quite.

You could mod the TS-7 to be similar. Not the same, and IMO still not quite as good, but certainly similar.
