#1 - "seem like forever that my eyes have been denied....", do you finger pick this section or use a pick? (Any idea which MJR does? I should have paid attention one of the two times I saw him play it live but, it would seem I was concentrated somewhere else.

#2 - how do you pick the part of the first 'heavy' lick after the acoustic intro (the lick that alternates 5/4 and 7/4)? It goes along a power chord form of root - 5th - octave - back to 5th and definitly goes too fast to alternate pick. Listening to the CD it sounds like he is economy picking it in some manner, but I can't quite get a handle on which direction to be doing it in, especially to transition to the quick alternate pick riff.

If anyone could help that would be much appreciated.

For the heavy riff I've used fingering like this:

Code:
D||----------------------|
A||----------------------|
F||------7---8-7-5-------|
C||--0h7---7-------8-7-5-|
G||----------------------|
D||----------------------|

Sometimes I play it without hammering the fifth.

I can't really say which technique I use but playing it got easier when I play the root (first note) on C-string instead of G-string (5 fret on G) How but clean is my playing? That's another story.

I love that part because the bass doubles every note of the guitar.
