"a fair judgement":mellow song or the first opeth's heavy song with just clean vox?

yes dude...i asked 'cause i saw someone saying that...so, maybe it was you!

well...it's a heavy song but if compared to the others - in the album - it's mellow...that's why i'm getting confuse!

ah, nice guitar in your avatar!

Yeah but yet they're labelled Opeth's mellow songs, because most of the song throughout its just acoustic guitars and a bit of lead but it's not like the whole song is interchanging between heavy and soft like AFJ... To those songs the 'heavier' part near the end is kind of like a climax whereas A Fair Judgement has the heavyness throughout, especially near the end with the final riff.

i dunno man..."deliverance" is my least favorite opeth album...it has it's nice moments but i fell like something is missing there...it's hard to explain...

anyway, for me that final riff fits without problem...i'm not an musician maybe like you but this riff sounds ok.

hehe, well it's not a matter of being a musician or not, whether you like something or not really just depends on personal taste... although I gotta admit I wouldn't like Malmsteen if I wasn't into guitar... but yeah whatever does it for you, I think I know what you're talking about when you say there's something missing... I think I had that at first but I just kinda learned to like it and now I'm fine with it... if I don't feel like listening to it I'll just put on Still Life, or the timeless Orchid which I can never dislike :).

i'm with you...

ah, i play drums but i don't consider myself as a musician like many people here in my country do...i just metioned this fact 'cause sometimes musicians have other way to see and review music...i noticed that when i read what novembers doom guys said about "deliverance" in their board...not something really different, but they kind of mixed up what they think as listeners and their opinion as musicians...

well, that's it...i need to sleep...

good night

I agree with you totally Ectoplasma. Deliverance, ranks on the lower part of Opeth's albums for me. There is just something missing from it.. I havent been able to put my finger on it, it is still a fantastic album, but something just isnt there for me.. I noticed as well, the bass lines arent as "in the front" as they were with BWP. You notice the bass, its there.... But it just seemed like it was much more pronounced with BWP, and even with SL.. I just cant seem to put my finger on what else is missing on it.. I'll give it another listen tonight on my drive home from work and see if anything jumps out at me :D

A song does not have to aggressive to be "heavy."

I find A Fair Judgement to be a monumentally heavy song for Opeth.

I'm starting to realize what Mr. Akerfeldt meant when he told us Deliverance would be Opeth's "heaviest" record...
