Done by Keith Merrow. Really well done - all pickups were installed in the same guitar, played through the same amp, with the same amp settings.

distortion/invader sounded the best to me!
just thinking about which one to put into my next DIY project,
couldn't decide between the SH-6 and the invader, now it's three of them, damn! :D

great riffing btw!

Sup?:)

Man,, that was an awesome shootout. I liked the fact they played the 2 track guitars at the end to compare outside of the mix. and is it just me or did that Dimebucker just sound like total ass?

That really was one of the more informative pickup shootouts I've ever heard. That said, I thought the Alternative 8 sounded best to me.

Wow what a massive difference pickups make. I mean I knew that but damn. There's just SO much difference between them. Def liked the Distortion.

And who the F is this Keith Merrow guy? He's quite the bad ass...

Yeah dude slays on the axe. I thought the Distortion sounded chunky as fuck. EMTY blackout? It was a little muffled but otherwise not bad imo.

invader seems better in guitar only version, but distortion complement with the other and make it sounds big. never regret bought used distortion for $40

The shoot-out and playing are great!

One thing I wonder though... which pickup was the amp dialed for? That would have a massive effect on the perceived outcome of the test.

Guessing it's dialed for the distortion since the comments he made on his facebook gave the impression that they are played chronological ("I became sloppy towards the end" etc.)

I think the result would be really different if he tweaked for the Dimebucker:
"ALL THE OTHER PICKUPS ARE MUDDY AND UNDEFINED AS SHIT!!!! DIMEBAG 4 LIEF!!1!!!eleven!!111!!!"

This is a great shootout, wow that must have taken a while and a lot of thrown away takes. Thanks to Keith and whoever put this together for that awesome effort.

I am very glad that I am using the Distortion almost exclusively now, but surprised that the JB sounded pretty bad to my ears in this comparison... that's another go-to pickup of mine that I like. That Dimebucker sounded HORRIBLE, wow. I hated the Blackout Metal in this comparison too.

The dime bucker clearly suffered from the settings centered towards more conventional pickups ! This kind of tones can sounds cool but here it's wasn't appropriate !

It comforted me in the need to switch to Distortions, I have been feeling uncomfortable with EMG for a few years, I prefer a little smoothness. To my surprise I didn't like the JB so much on this config, and I quite liked a few of them I didn't really know like he alternative 8. I'm surprised most of them can have some decent use, I always thought he alternatives would be too exotic or muddy.

The playing does a lot though, this guy riffing is close to perfection !
