hey everybody! i'm brandnew to the board but not to opeth. i'm tired of listening to everybodys mixed feeling on the new without putting in mine...so here it is...i would give the song a 8/10...but lets think about it...this cd's obviouly a concept album about a cult, this song beautifully ties in with the idea and the idea of repition of riffs is brilliant (to me at least) because it keeps you jamming on that, and that my friends is what a cults all about! now if you think thats a bad riff then its totally different.
But the greatest thing about mikes writing is how amazing his song fits the scenerio of the story. If you were to take only dirge for november and show it to everybody it could be the same reaction. plus some of you guys need to show some faith in mike, HE'S A FUCKIN GENIUS!

It's got nothing to do with selling out, it's just the fact that they've run out of ideas, and are having a hard time writing interesting music that is up to par with their other brilliant albums.

Welcome, Joe.

1. to get you started on the right foot, let this be your guide when you visit.

2. How are you so informed about the record being a concept record, the theme or content of the story if there is in fact such a thing?

3. The Ålmighty is a genius... so you'll have little argument on that.

Out.:flame:

whats wrong with dirge for november?

oh, and your statement of "but lets think about it...this cd's obviouly a concept album about a cult".....priceless.

I don't think they've sold out. And I didn't say they've sold out. But you can't argue that there are people here who believe Opeth has probably gone/are probably going to shit on account of them signing with Roadrunner and/or the "repetitive" feel of the new track. My point was that the original post would have fit quite nicely in an existing thread with such ongoing discussion.

dude, chill! We got one measly song, the rest of the album could be brilliant. Talkin like that you sound like you think Deliverance and Damnation were god awful too, and this is another step in the long downward spiral of a stale band. I doubt this is the case. Let's wait for just a bit more evidence before we come to that kinda conclusion, eh?

Nope - that's metallica. I think Mike and his band are hardly running out of ideas. Example: Damnation.

dirge for novembers a great song, don't get me wrong, and i should of posted this in a old thread that talked about repetivness because both songs have a lot of it.

I personally don't know if it's a concept until I listen to the album or hear from Mikael about it. The song is still alright imo, but until we hear the full quality song and album, I think we should all rest our judgements aside.

hahaha i agree god that was great, then he procedes to analzye the song according to the "a cult" theme hahaha

Guys, Im trying to tell everyone on this damn forum that what Mike says on the DVD is not "a cult", but rather the single word, "occult"...who the fuck would write a concept album about a cult?! There wouldn't be enough substance, he means occult, like ghosts and things beyond the human realm, supernatural phenomenon if you will, not a fucking cult. And yes, I do think Deliverance was quite stale, though Damnation was brilliant.
