A Sense of Purpose

I think it'll be the studio diaries, maybe some footage of them doing stuff live, the ridiculous video they shot for The Mirror's Truth, and if we're lucky, some more interviews and behind the scenes stuff...

Even though I think they've been progressing downward since 2000, I still don't think they've put out a bad record. I think the main problem with the last three albums has been the production. I don't get why they keep going for this drum and bass-heavy, compressed sound. I'd like to hear the guitars a little more prominent in the mix, rather than the muddy wall of sound that has become their trademark.

And of course, Friden's vocals are another huge reason why this band has changed so much. You take Anders' vocals from Colony and you throw them on top of their last three albums, then I think these albums are looked at in a totally different light. But Anders obviously doesn't have it in him to reach for those lower levels anymore. He still has a great scream, but I wish he was able to mix some growls in with the screams once in a while. That would change things quite a bit.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll like the new album, but there will also be a big part of me imagining what this album would sound like with better production and better vocals.

This band is so friggin' lame now it makes me sick. Instead of getting better and more mature through their career, it's actually gone backwards. They started out with mature songwriting and albums and have gradually become immature. Just look at the stupid artwork! Who would be impressed by that? A 15 year old? A Korn fan? It surely doesn't represent the band I once loved. And somehow Anders went from being a good vocalist into being one of the shittiest ones around. I can't fucking stand this band anymore. :yuk::yuk::yuk:

:erk:

Why did you bother to post then?

To vent his rage. I see where KittyKatatonia is coming from, but I would not put it in quite so extreme terms.

In Flames have got more mainstream (especially with soundtrack), but i hoped that with come clarity they had showed that they could still be a) good and b) heavy. The new song...the new artwork...doesnt fill me with confidence that they are either a) or b) anymore.

But then...they have a hard act to follow. Some of their older work is utterly amazing.

About the vocals, on a bootleg -2006- (I think it was), of one concert, when he sings Leeches, he does the most brutal deep growls for two lines, then doesn't do it again. It sounded GREAT, too bad he doesn't use them in studio...

Agreed, though we don't hear anders doing growls in the studio, you hear it live sometimes.

Can't he just put all his vocal energy in the studio for once? :ill:

Cool box set.

Also I like Anders new vocals. I don't really care what vocals he uses. He still sounds amazing.

I love everything up to and including Clayman. I thought R2R was really mediocre. I thought STYE and CC were okay, but nothing really special.

Personally, the album cover sucks.
What i actually HAVE heard (The Mirror's Truth, Disconnected) is not that great... the beginnings aren't that bad. Then it just goes downhill from that... And the two songs even sounded alike to me at first.

I'm leading more into Soilwork now since IF started being bad.
In Flames is not the band they once were, they are now like Nu Metal, or something that isn't the band i love.

Having a whiny voice in both of those songs just doesn't cut it for me.
It sucks.
