bump for skyrefuge :loco:

but seriously, is paysage d'hiver music any good? rather, if it came in a regular jewel case, would you still seek out and buy?

oh and I've heard snippets on their myspace and the mp3 offered at cold dimensions, but I'm still not sure whether this is truly worth $25

Has anyone heard the album from start to finish?

Their new one comes out shortly, again in an A5 digibook.

i tried getting into Darkspace (same guy in passage hiver) and couldn't. it's just uninteresting colossal wall-of-sound interspersed with ambient moments black metal.

i suppose thats the draw, but thats just gay to me

Yes, it's actually pretty good, I have the mp3s of the self titled demo which is much better; however, this is a 'cold' version of Darkspace. Both albums use the chugging guitars to create ambience, but they are both going in completely different directions. The black metal is phenomenal on it, but the pure ambient later could have been utilized differently. It's not bad at all, but it seems to loose focus towards the very end, which the self titled demo doesn't at all.

The self titled demo is some of the most cold black metal I've heard, it uses melodic guitars, like early Norwegian stuff, yet he plays a violin over top to make it that much more eerie and cold.

No way. I couldn't listen to more than 3 minutes of any of it because it literally hurt my fucking ears like you wouldn't believe. :erk: It sounds like a recording of a recording, where the spectrum of sound deliberately cuts off at like 15,000hz and the whole orchestration is smashed almost entirely between 0 and 5,000hz, like an annoying midranged-buzzsaw sandwich. If you've ever listened to "Never Again" from John Zorn's Kristallnatch you'll know the pain that I'm speaking of.

I wouldn't trust your opinion on a black metal album anyways :)

Weird, I absolutely love Darkspace, the ambient stuff created by the guitars is refreshing and easy to listen to.

To each his own because I obviously don't find it physically painful at all. I actually find it quite relaxing.
