Killer package from Erik

1. "Moonchild" (Seventh Son of a Seventh Son) - Just an average song. I understand that this is GOOD music - the musicianship is top notch, but it just doesn't move me in any way. The riffs simply don't appeal to me, nor do the vocals.

2. "Murders in the Rue Morgue" (Killers) - KILLER verse, and with an equally cool chorus, this song could have been 100% ass-kicking. It's got a strong punk influence, which I like. Best song on the CD-R.

3. "Revelations" (Piece of Mind) - I can appreciate the epicness of this, and I also sort of like the faster parts. But I simply don't enjoy the melody. Mid-paced/slow songs are not my cup of tea at all in most cases. And a message to the vocalist - stop using that damn vibrato.

4. "Prowler" (Iron Maiden) - Some cool guitar masturbation parts. Overall, it's nothing more than "OK".

5. "Infinite Dreams" (Seventh Son of a Seventh Son) - Not my thing at all. The guitarists and the bass player are GOOD at what they do, but it lacks in the song writing department.

6. "Powerslave" (Powerslave) - See 5.

7. "Stranger in a Strange Land" (Somewhere in Time) - See 5.

8. "Sanctuary" (Iron Maiden) - A little better. It actually sounds a bit 60's rock here and there.

9. "Children of the Damned" (The Number of the Beast)
- I find myself constantly thinking "It'd be really cool if they had sped this song up quite a lot". Mid-paced build-up and a fast climax = win. But they don't, and the song does not appeal to me.

10. "Be Quick or be Dead" (Fear of the Dark) - Some cool moments here and there. Better than the slower songs.

11. "Killers" (Killers) - Obviously better than the slower songs, but still nothing more than "average".

12. "Total Eclipse" (Run to the Hills single) - See 5.

13. "Phantom of the Opera" (Iron Maiden) - Very decent verse, especially the parts with back-up vocals. But then it fades into a guitar wanking competition that lasts for about a quarter, before the cool verse kicks in again. This would have totally destroyed if it had been a fast 2:30 song.

14. "The Evil That Men Do" (Seventh Son of a Seventh Son) - Suffers from the same "good musicianship, boring melody" syndrome.

15. "Judas be My Guide" (Fear of the Dark)
- Ditto.

16. "Only the Good Die Young" (Seventh Son of a Seventh Son)
- Ditto, but the chorus is pretty cool.

speaking of changing one's mind about music,

do you like iron maiden yet? because these are some shockingly bad opinions

How did all this package exchanging start pray tell? Was there a concerted effort to exchange addresses at one point in the very early days of RC?

I wouldnt mind formulating such a thing for an RC hamie. To pick which, would be like Sofia's choice. Mayhaps whoever hits me with the best RC reco in the next 6-8 months would be a recipient which would bear no favoritism.

How do we get this shit going for another rendezvous?

no i think it literally started as just a way to exchange music and then people started including candy and various funny garbage

it's almost weird to think about now but RC is so old that in ye olde days, downloading full albums was not really a thing and streaming? fuhgeddaboutit. and so if you wanted to share music with others we used to literally fucking burn CD-R's and snail-mail them

i will do candy/food exchanges with y'all any day of the week, hit me up

The cheapest parcel you can send to Sweden these days is $40 for a flat-rate box which is approximately the size of a VHS tape. Back when I was 15 years old and sending tapes/CDs all around the world, I remember that sending a tape to you guys cost $12.00. It's crazy shit.

I make half the money that I did 15 years ago, so feel free to send me coupons and SASEs.

I still sell cds all the time. I quit sending outside the US a long time ago. Expensive as hell with no tracking ubless you go registered. Fuck that noise.

imo if the buyer wants to pay the exorbitant shipping then let them

and if they wanna skimp out on registered then it aint your bitch when it doesn't arrive

i admit it's kind of hard to enforce that policy when a crestfallen mexican contacts you afterwards, having spent their last hard-earned pesos on your 70 dollar masacre lp only to have it swiped by the post office black metal cartel for resale on ebay, but rulez are rulez

If only it were that easy. No matter how much you say "at your own risk", if the item has no tracking the seller can make a paypal claim and they will win if I cant provide a tracking #.

Ridiculous yes, but these are ridiculous times

don't sell to people with bad or low feedback scores

it is my experience that people who have been in the game for long enough to know how it works and who care about their reputation won't try to pull shit like that

but yeah, i've heard paypal is pretty ridiculous when you're on the butt end of their Customer Protection

I listen to Aces High and Run To The Hills now and then, but not a lot else. That being said, I should never have written that track-by-track review of the Iran Madmen CD-R, I should have written some vague ramblings about me being intrigued by the songs instead of inadvertently pissing on the legacy of one important metal bands ever
