The problem with the euro in Italy was that they essentially doubled the prices overnight. 5000 mille lire was about 2.50 euros when the lire was still the currency of Italy. When they replaced it, they just said whatever number there was in mille lire, that would be the number of euro. So what was 5000 mille lire has become 5 euros instead of 2.50.

yeh same happened in here in the Netherlands...

1gulden became 1euro overnight

and 1euro = 2,20371 gulden if i remember correctly
