Achieving Great Pinch Harmonics

GAIN. makes it a LOT easier. Not absolutely necessary though, it just helps if you are learning.
Of course there is all the technical side of things - pickups, distance from strings, etc..
Wide vibrato also helps in getting a good pinched harmonic for some reason..

To add to Marcus' post about controlling them. Make sure they're in time too as most often they'll be vibrato'd in quarter or eighth notes.
This comes down to finger(s) strength. It goes without saying, the more your do it, the stronger your fingers get, the easier it is to control.

Jesus, I can do pinch harmonics using my finger nail instead of a pick, and on the clean channel. Just work on your technique, and work on pitching them right.

End of.

If you don't have the technique down, practice with gain. If you're starting to get it and need a workout, practice on an acoustic or with a clean sound.

Just keep messing with it until you get the technique down - I'm not an uber-metal-squeelie-shred player, but I can do pinch harmonics on acoustics, electrics w no gain, my banjo, etc no problem. If we're talking about recording, don't be afraid to overdub them.
