Adam A7 monitors

I wouldn't say there's such a big hole in there, and the sub won't help that much in those frequencies:

Are you sure it's not the room?

yes, positive. my room's treated quite well, and also with the p11a i'm not experiencing anything similar.
it's not a hole as in underrepresented frequencies, it's more that this range is quite muddy, making it hard to judge what you're doing eq wise.

To me the HS80s sound more balanced, and from memory had a bit more low extension too. Something about the frequency balance of the ADAMs doesn't sit right with me. Though I'm one of the few on here that cared enough about monitoring to significantly invest in it, so it might be a different perspective to everyone else. I heard the HS80Ms the other day again and really do maintain that they are good monitors, regardless of the price. They sound more expensive than they are. If I didn't have the Opals I'd happily mix on em.

I'm going to respectfully disagree. Don't hate the HS80s but they aren't nearly as detailed to my ears and if you're only going to have one pair of monitors you have to be able to hear everything which the A7s are great for.

Really, you have to try them. See if a store will let you test them out at home or something. You have to hear stuff you know on them and see if they work for you.

You will have to get used to the A7's too.. Like any monitor.
Adam monitors are known as truthsayers really.
They wont make your mix any better than it actually is.
And thats a good thing.

Yes this is really important guys!!
I got a pair of yammy's and I confirm that.
hs80m has that fucking stupid hole from 150-200hz to 400hz, you don't know what's happening there.
I hope with a sub I can get that detail.

Sorry for pointing out something obvious, but did you have the "room control" switch set to flat? You could have up to a 4 dB roll off from around 500 Hz and below depending on how that's set.

I've never been a fan TBH. The ADAM mid exertion has always seemed unnatural and fake to me. I've tracked on a few S3As in my time, and A/B'd the A7s to several other monitors and rarely ever preferred them.

I agree with this. I had a pair of A7s for a few weeks and didn't really like them at all. Too middy and dull sounding to me. Sold them on ebay.

I like my A7's although many people would probably prefer the Dynaudio Bm6a over the Adam A7's for just a couple hundred more. The low end is really detailed on the Dyna's vs the Adam's have the Midrange detail. Actually the lower mids on the Dyna's is probably some of the best I've heard. But seriously if you can wait, then save up for the Focal Solo b6. Dude, those monitors translate so good, they are so detailed, the low end is so full that you don't even need a sub with those, where as with thee A7's I wouldn't want to mix w/o a sub because the low end sucks on those things. The Focal's have the beryllium (sp?) tweeter so you get no ear fatigue. In my home studio I have A7's and at the other studio I work at, we have the Focal's and I can record and mix all day on those Focal's and my ears don't burn up. The only problem with the Focals is that everything sounds good through them, so it really takes a learning curve. Oh and the 3 dimensional sound they give is freakin amazing! But if you have the A7's you can do some good mixes through them and you won't be disappointing. They do translate pretty well when playing your mixes on other systems such as the car. I'll tell you what though, as soon as I can afford the extra grand, my A7's will be for sale to purchase the Focals!
