AHHHHH FUCK YES! FINALLY!

I think it has to be better than Watershed simply because Watershed was a horrible album. But it's going to fail, I know that.

At this point I just want the keyboard out and the guitar leads back in.

I kinda liked Watershed, actually.

Whenever I wanna listen to Opeth, however, I always listen to him instead:

This band can basically do no wrong imo and I always look forward to new material, but what would really make my frog jump is an album full of nothing but raw and dirty heavy riffs with catchy hooks, and long clean melodies ala Orchid and Morningrise. I know it won't happen but oh man... if it did.... :) :)

this.

BWP and Damnation are the last ones I liked.

I don't know how you guys still dig this band. It's become Mikaels personal little progressive fuck around, it isn't Opeth anymore.

Whatever, it's still awesome music. People change. Bands change. Some bands change bad. Some bands change good. Such is life.

It seems I have the opposite opinion as anyone else here!

I would love nothing more than Opeth to continue in the direction of Watershed, and make the ULTIMATE HEAVY METAL MIND FUCK RECORD, something akin to Scott Walker's 'The Drift', one of the creepiest and darkest records in modern history.

That said, Opeth are always doing something interesting and unique (and always have, so going BACK to a sound is simply not going to happen), and will catch every one of us completely off guard, especially if S.Wilson is at the production helm.

Look forward people, and look forward to a new Opeth opus!

I'm looking forward to Steven and Michael releasing that album they are making together, too. Interested to see what it might sound like, since it's supposed to sound different from anything any of them have done before (dunno if I believe that or not, but yeah...). And speaking of SW, his upcoming solo album and Blackfield III should be good aswell.

I didn't believe it myself when I heard it. Unless they plan on doing a jazz album, it's not going to be different than anything we've heard before. Is Mike Porntoy still drumming for it?

Sorry for being so negative in this thread, but I'm tired of being let down by one of my favorite bands and musicians year after year.

Even if they take it in this kind of direction, it's still fucking groovy and better than watershed:
