Airfare

I scored a tix from New Mexico for $268. America West.

They were on sale and the next day the same ticket was $370. I checked just now and they are down to $313. Just keep checking and be ready to buy when the price goes down to what you are willing to part with. I also found that American Airlines was running around the same as America West and having sales about the same time too.

Just gotta say, I used Hotwire for my trip to England in March, and I will *never* use it again. It gives you a 'window' of time for your departures, and though those were reasonable, what was left off were the layovers (3.5 hours and 5 hours). And it was only about $60 cheaper than I could have gotten through regular channels. So, to sum it up: if you're not saving beaucoup bucks, I wouldn't even consider it. Unless spending 5 hours at the Philly airport is your idea of a good time. :P

Oh, and even though there were several flights leaving to Atlanta before mine, which weren't full at all, I couldn't trade flights. When they say no exchanges, they really mean it.

you're not kidding, shaye... Hotwire and Priceline are worthless, unless you truly don't care WHEN you get someplace, or how difficult it is to get there. Every time someone I know has used them to get to a music festival, they've been screwed over in some way, either by not getting to see a certain band that they wanted to see, having to miss extra work just to accomodate for travel, having to take a cab to the airport instead of public transport, etc.

Right. Hotwire and their ilk are handy if -- and only if -- you can plan on staying an extra day before and/or after the event you're planning on attending, since their window covers a whole day. They got me to the UK and back for less than $350 a while back, so I'll still check them out when I have some flexibility.

Atlanta radio personality and consumer advocate Clark Howard recommended SideStep -- www.sidestep.com -- on the air, and he's a chap who knows his business. He said that 90% of the time they procure the cheapest fares available. So, now I have another place to scan. :worship:

Hmmm, I'm flying to New York in October to see a band perform at Radio City Music Hall*, so the more options, the better.

I plan on flying out of Chicago, and the cheapest rate I can find for a round trip is $252. It's getting more brutal each year. Unfortunately, I don't think I could handle a 12-hour road trip with my female friend!

Stay metal. Never rust.

I work right next to one of the remote lots at O'Hare, and it's still cheaper for me to fly out of MKE than O'Hare, even with the free parking. $221 tax inc on Midwest Airlines, which is close to what it has been the last couple years.
I live in Cheeseland, and I'd MUCH rather deal with Milwaukee's well thought out airport, than deal with O'Hare.....

I've used Hotwire a couple of times, and while you *do* have to be flexible in times, I've never had a problem. I used them to fly to CA for WorldCon, and my plane left at 6:45am, but all was smooth. Same when I used them to fly to Germany. The price to CA was excellent, and Germany was... not exceptionally cheap, but about fifty bucks or more better than everything else I'd seen.

Flying to ATL, it looks like I'll have to hold out for a sale to get something under $200 that doesn't involve a stop. I will happily pay an extra thirty bucks for a nonstop - it's only two freakin' hours, I don't need to stop in Charlotte or Detroit, esp. not coming back, when I'm exhausted and hungover!
