Apparently, all planes coming into the US, and I'm sure all US flights in general, are not allowing you to bring on toiletries, liquids, gels, electronics etc... The reason for this is because there was a terrorist plot to take liquid explosives on the plane and ignite them with electronic devises.

Now, who else is beyond pissed about this? This means that your valuable stuff like your iPods, laptops, colognes, iPod speakers will have to be placed with the baggage claim. The last time I've done that, about $1500 worth of electronics, colognes, good alcohol, CDs, DVDs etc in a bag they made me check in was stolen and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it since they say they are not responsible for their workers (which they legally are) and they hang up the phone or tell me to leave.

Anyways, besides for having to be on a flight for who knows how long with absolutely nothing to do, no music, no gameboy, you cannot do your work because no laptop, who else thinks this is unfair! It's not like those damn terrorists are going to just give up, so we all know this is going to last forever. 9/11 happened 5 years ago, yet security is still crazy. I have an Arabic sounding last name, so I'm automatically "randomly" searched. I'm sick of airlines now. I travel a lot, so they lost my business. I'm sticking with the bus and train from now on.

I see your point- I also travel a lot and there is no other option but to take the plane.
But what are they to do to secure safety?
travel to Israel one time and you see what truely strict security check is about. Entering the country is ok- it takes about 1,5 hr bagage check and some questions. But when you leave you get the 1 hour bagage check and a 1.5 hour interview!!! Last time they asked me all sorts of details about my private life really nothing to do with security. And I am a 5 time traveller to Israel.
Next to this the security in the US last year was a piece of cake!

its an invasion of privacy to the utmost degree. there is no way they can stop attacks through security forces- only through understanding!!

at this rate, every attack or failed attack will make it harder and harder for honest people to travel which is just the goal of terrorists to begin with! we have to remember that the goal of terrorism isn't to kill people - it's to terrorize people and cripple them with fear, and they succeed!

maybe i will travel by boat now... i don't know :(

My parent left for a vacation in Great Britain yesterday...because of all of the situation of the Pakistanians trying to blow up 12 flights from the UK to the US in midflight...their flight was delayed from 7am to 2pm which made them lose half a day of traveling in Liverpool so they were pissed as hell but better safe than sorry.
about Israel's airport security...if you speak fluent hebrew and don't look oriental they usually don't give you much trouble...but yes tourists from other countries do get the whole personality cavity check...to see if something terror related might come up...or maybe you just look cute and they like to stare at your ass...the whole problem with that is the loss of duty free shop time. as you might have noticed Israel's duty free is one of the cheapest places in the world.

Granted, I haven't been to Israel in quite a few years (nothing to do with the violence or whatever, mostly just personal reasons) but my mom goes there a lot for a weekend when she goes to Budapest for business. I asked her a few months ago if the security was any more extensive than it is in the US. She said not really so much. The only thing they asked her about was a bottle of perfume that was round. They thought it was a grenade when it went through the x-ray thing. But when they saw what it was, they didn’t make too much of a big deal about it.

But it's already going a bit far to not let people take liquids on the plane. They should just check the liquid. Toothpaste is no big deal and they serve drinks on the plane, so I don't care about that. But I don't want any of my colognes to be put for baggage claim. I had a $90 bottle of cologne that was stolen. Speakers were stolen, clothes, a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label and a lot of other stuff. I usually travel with my laptop and my iPod but I always carry that on with me, now I have to put that on the baggage claim? Right now a lot of my traveling is done between NYC and Detroit, so I don't mind taking the bus or train since it is bearable. But what about if I go somewhere a lot further? It's just way too long of a ride, so I have to fly.

Because my last name is also very Arabic sounding, I also get screened as if I was Osama Bin Laden trying to board the plane. It’s embarrassing when they ask you to take your shoes and belt off. Then afterwards, they put you in a room while someone asks you a bunch of questions. Besides that plane ticket prices went up like crazy, why the hell should I bother dealing with all this? I understand that there are the problems of security, but it’s not like there aren’t ways of accommodating the customer. They can check to make sure that the liquid really is cologne. They can put a lock or something on the music player or laptop so it cannot be broken to ignite a fuse, which they can remove once the person lands. They might do this eventually, but right now it’s as if they’re taking away the passenger’s freedoms.

Yeah, I know. I have this huge bottle of Ricard that was only like 10 bucks at the duty free.

Guys can I just say that everything is under control and to be totally blunt and honest (this is not slag at the lads from the US here like you metalhead87coz you all dimond gezzers every single person on here) is under better control than the USA can be or have been. We cracked it quickly and our airports etc will be on red alert for the next 2 wks (apprently).
I have to say I feel sorry for the muslim community here in the UK coz for the last few weeks things have been looking up for them and the press and Jo Gullable haven't given them the usual "Muslims = terrorists" Bullshit but now I fear they are back in the firing line.
Paraox did you mum and Dad enjoy my beautiful country? Did they get out to the countryside at all like the Lake District or my county of Kent ('The Garden of England')? Becasue that is one of England's/Britains highlights, our countryside that many of my fellow countrymen never see because they bugger off to Spain ever summer and give rubbish excuses like 'its to wet and cold, we need to get some sun' or 'this country is boring there is nothing to see'. What the hell were they doing in Liverpool?! London is much nicer! (but then I am being bias considering Im on the London/Kent boarder)LOL. Anyway I hope your mum and dad aren't to pissed off an come back, its for there own safety so I hope they understand.
I'll tell you what some people are SOOO whiny! On the news the other day (BBC and ITV) there were so many people whining that hey had their bags turned inside out and all their precious packing was now ruined! FOR FUCK SAKE PEOPLE THIS IS FOR YOUR OWN FUCKING SAFETY! If we let them on the plane and the bomb went off their families would moan and kick up a right old fuss, our secutriy staff and police can never get anything right and I tip my hat of to them (especially someone who is very close to my heart an family) for being brave and cracking the thing so quickly.
Ahh and Bush we cracked it to save our own skins not to help you out mate so you can take that comment you made the other day ("Id like to thank the British security staff for cracking this for us blah blah blah") and stick it up your arse mate, we done for those who live under the St. George's Cross an Union Jack not for the Stars and Stripes!

Althogu I know that only just a few extreme, and not even religious, muslims are really into that whole terrorism thing, I know rthat Islam is a religion of peace. I hope you don't feel offended when these asshole do this shit. I knw that most of you dopn;t want this to be done. You are jus a different religion,. like anyone of us, we are all humans.
I am drunk as hell right now, so you rpoabbalyu dont'n knwo what the hemm I'm typing.
But I hope that this will all end soon. That people with turbans and people with keepahs or baseball caps, Kangol nightclub hats or anything else on their heads can go on an airline without being interrogated or searched. Just because some assholes who just happen to be muslim, deside to murder the innocent. I know that a large percentage of you are not into that crap

Peace to everyne here.
Whatr has to be done has to be done.
But pne day it will be over.

I may be pro-war, but only against the guitly. Most people just want to live their lives, support their families. They may follow their religions, but most don't want to kill tohers for not believeing in a different religion.

Well, they're still there
they just left on thursday...kent is on the program so I guess they'll visit it.
it's their second time in the UK. Last time I was with them and we toured london for 10 days. this one is a trip all over the uk...they'll visit london too obviously...but there isn't much to see there that they haven't seen already

Cool, They need to visit Oxford & Cambridge as well, being British Instituions that they are and if they can get tickets to go see the mighty Charlton Athletic LOL (you see I live in Bexley which is a Borough of London but my Address is Kent, so if I go in 1 direction I go to london in the other I hit Kent in about 10 mins), Do they drink? If so they should try and book a tour of Shepards Neame Brewery its the oldest Brewery in the country and is my local brewer (even though I could Youngs and Fullers too) and they do good beer.
Plus just check out our countryside because it is absolutly Gorgous!

dude...my parents are 50
and they are the most uptight people you'll ever have a chance to meet...
my parents don't drink anything except wine for medical reasons and we're a Manchester United household...so we don't care much for Charlton Athletic...
Oxford and Cambridge is planned in 2 days

I must admit Iv always had a soft spot for United. Well for medical reaons I say to you to tell tehm to get out and see some countryside then!

ROCK ON! :headbang:
