Akerfleldt on the next porcupine tree record.

No? Progressive just describes the diversity and such found within the music, not a specific style...

@the other dude, Lacuna Coil? Damn...

Be pretty cool if Mike's gonna be on a PT album I guess...maybe he'll be allowed to play guitar a bit too...

Ok, Wilson keeps talking about how In Absentia's metal feel. Does anybody else not really hear that?

well i wouldn't say metal, but it definetly has a more hard rocking feeling then any of their other stuff. so i can see why he says it.

also lacuna coil sucks. i'd fuck christina scabbia hard though.

QUOTE]

my point exactly.....so progressive means diversity, trying new things, etc........so why say progressive *insert name of genre here*, because by adding the genre to the name you are limiting it and negating the progressiveness of it.

btw, im not trying to start some random argument or anything.....its just ive pondered this for a while and this thread prompted me to say something

I think that the term "progressive" should be used when something is literally progressive.

When music tries to reach new forms, does not hesitate to try new things, includes experimental and new elements, does not try to force itself into categories and genres or pre-made styles, is thoughtfully arranged, then (for me), it is progressive.

Aspects like "strange time signatures", "complex arrangements" and so on are imo not necessary for something to be progressive, although they are often a part of it, because mostly the more proficient and daring musicians do progressive music.
