penance is basically dream death under a different name (the exact same members, some of the time anyway) so it's weird they're not more known.

In the context even of people that love 80's metal, I would say Dream Death are underrated too.
Not as much as many others, but they're hardly on the tips of many people's tongues, which is weird.

Another album I bought on tape as a (semi) blind buy and was extremely impressed. Definitely don't listen to it enough.

It's basically a better, more refined though still rather sloppy in a charming way version of their 2010 album. More of the same but less confused and amateurish.

I really quite like it.

Which do you like best, the Othyrworld or the Sacred Blade album?

The Othyrworld version. Production is much better, I like the generally more laid-back performance/vocals, the couple songs excluded (while still good) were generally simpler and less interesting ones, and the new songs are among the very best on the album.

EDIT: Also, avatar is the album currently kicking my ass. First three Artillery albums are among the very best in riffcraft.
