You should get both albums they did in the early days (before they reformed and released a third album in 2014).

The new Nokturnal Mortum is starting to click. I love the layering and texturing in the production and arrangements. Between the synths, folk instruments, and regular drum/guitar/bass fare, there's a ton going on, but it's woven together very thoughtfully to create a truly magical atmosphere.

I own the first two Europe albums and they're definitely heavy metal and they were definitely accepted in the metal scene at the time those albums were new. I can't speak for their later music because "The Final Countdown" is the only other song that I've heard.
