I think they could have left off "Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)" though, it does feel somewhat unnecessary, but that could just be my not-so-enthusiastic appreciation for most instrumental pieces.

I think I'd agree, I haven't seen a lot of love for it in the past. It just wasn't as memorable as Transylvania off the first album. If you're going to write an instrumental piece, it has to have some sort of a hook, which wasn't really present on Losfer Words. Steve's bass playing is great as always, which is a redeeming factor for me.

Agreed. By no means is it a bad instrumental, I just feel it wrecked the momentum of the record for my own personal taste. I love the album though, regardless. Locked in for years now as a firm second favourite album of mine by the band.
"The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" is a masterpiece.

Not to mention the album starts off with two of their better 'hit' songs, it's a pretty fucking glorious album to say the least.

I'm not too familiar with it, it certainly isn't as strong as their first 5 records but I wouldn't say it's bad. Wasted Years is a great track to be played live, I can't wait to see them finish off with it this coming Friday! What about you?

Like you I'm not as familiar with it, I used to place it above Killers in my tier of preference. Specifically because "Alexander The Great" is such a massive, brilliant piece of heavy metal. I think I need to listen to both soon, back-to-back to put things into perspective.

I lose interest after Seventh Son personally, although I enjoy Fear of the Dark (the song) and The Book of Souls. I have heard Brave New World is great too, but only know a few songs off it. I should probably give it a listen some time. What do you think of Empire of the Clouds? People are pretty divided on it.

And yes, Alexander the Great is an astonishing song. Maiden have always proved to be great at writing final songs.

Oh I have no idea, I didn't even bother to check their new album out last year. Too many brilliant newer/unknown bands to spend money on you know.

Fair enough, it gets difficult to listen to your favourite bands' new stuff when there's so much else to discover (especially when they're releasing 90 minute albums like Book of Souls). I recommend giving it a listen some time, you might not enjoy it but it's worth a try. Some people say it's just a rehash of their old stuff, but I think it's incredibly original and a standout in their more recent albums.

Well admittedly I was never a die-hard Iron Maiden fan or anything, just so you don't get the wrong idea. I am definitely fine with cutting them off at some certain point.

This is the best song (and probably album) if we're talking about post-2000 Maiden material. Just breathtaking. Wish they still played it live.
The part when the song goes into the solo gives me chills every single time I listen to it. This song is a masterpiece and probably a Top 15 Iron Maiden song for me.
