Deathspell Omega's Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice is 68% yet most of us consider that album a great work.

68%? That's nuts.
Also I agree with Oz that Venom ain't black metal. Well they invented that term, so really they are black metal but ACTUAL black metal is something else.

Venom is black metal, but first wave black metal is defined much more loosely is all. I prefer it either way. The earliest bands in most genres aren't going to be as identifiably so when compared to the bands that along afterwards.

I feel like 1st wave black metal should probably be called a movement, not a genre... Because calling Mercyful Fate, Venom, Bathory, Sodom, Bulldozer, etc the same genre is a bit of a stretch.

First wave black metal is definitely a movement, based more on aesthetics and attitude than any specific sonic connection.
