That's a cool idea, but chances are you wouldn't get the best albums, you'd get more popular bands and the list would be made up by bands like Amon Amarth, Slayer, Mastodon etc.

I've listened to around 100 metal albums released in 2006, and I can safely say that it's been an absolutely splendid year for extreme metal. A top 40 is perhaps a bit ambitious, but I spent quite a lot of time listening to new releases last year, writing small reviews and giving scores whilst listening.
