Albums of the Year: 2006

You want to see the shittiest list ever? I can't beleive someone would actually call this list metal besides a couple bands, nonetheless, this list is beyond shit, Top 20 Albums of 2006! - jsimms52's Journal – Last.fm

Torture Killer & Illdisposed are alright death metal, and God Dethroned I think is pretty good....but as a diehard fan of Cradle of Filth (well, used to be)...I cringe any time anyone says Thornography is anything more than mediocre - that album is worthless. And yes the rest of that list is pure shite.

VOIVOD-Katorz
Celtic Frost-Monotheist

The Slayer album was o.k.

I thought that was fairly good but nothing great. I guess the style is unique in a sense, but for the same reason I didn't like it so much. Almost chaotically symphonic in structure :p

Very little love for the latest Ohtar, huh?

In my opinion it was decent. It has some good moments but I don't care much for it, meh...

Gloria is my undisputed album of the year. It is quite an ironic choice too as I am more of an oldschool swedeath and black metal fan and this album represents in many ways those commercial indulgences. That being said, I find something completely honest, bold, cinematic and truly progressive with this release that other albums like Agalloch's Ashes Against the Grain or other highly praised 06 releases failed to deliver.

In terms of other releases, Jesu's Silver and Amesoeurs' Ruines Humaines were also of high quality.
