Albums with a bad reputation that you like

I like most of Silent Night but I find the chorus REALLY unlistenable for some reason! :( That chorus ruins what could be an awesome song for me! Coz I love the rest of it. It's not fair lol.

I love Youthanasia......and I love CTE too. :)

Appetite is my favourite GnR album, partly due to it being the first hard rock album I ever got, and being associated with great times, like Skid Row's debut. The UYI are good (I love the first one), but I associate them with everyone jumping on the GnR bandwagon, Axl wearing bike shorts, and shitty things like a horn section and backing singers.

It's overrated because its considered one of the greatest albums ever. And I don't think it is to be honest. Not to say it isn't a good album because it is, and it does have lots of classic songs, but there are alot of hard rock albums released in the late '80s that are as good or better than Appetite For Destruction. It certainly has its flaws and I just think there are a lot of albums that are far more solid and consistent from start to finish than Appetite was.

Hmm, id like to hear what better hard rock albums there are in your opinion Troops :)

Guns 'N' Roses - Use Your Illusion II (1991)
I like this just about as much as Appetite For Destruction now. So it's not as hard rockin' and metal sounding, who gives a shit? With the exception of a couple of tracks, pretty much every song on this album is awesome in some way, and it also has my favourite Gunners songs ever, "You Could Be Mine" and "Civil War".

hahahha same here, those two are my most favourite GNR songs of all time.

Well for one Spawny.. "Skid Row"? That album shits on it!!!

I could even limit it to 1987 albums and come up with albums that are better or as good. Personally I think Dokken - Back For The Attack, Def Leppard - Hysteria, Treat - Dreamhunter and Whitesnake - 1987 are alot better than Appetite For Destruction.

Then there's heaps of other stuff that year that I think stands up as well as Appetite, such as Cinderella - Night Songs, Keel - Keel, TNT - Tell No Tales, Alice Cooper - Raise Your Fist & Yell, Kiss - Crazy Nights and Fastway - Trick Or Treat soundtrack to name a few.

Metallica - Load/Re-Load: Both albums has got alot of great riffs and vocal lines. I guess i love these albums because they were the first Metal/rock albums i heard.

Machine Head - The burning red: This album is just a bit different but has got tons of insanely heavy riffs, and just overall good songwriting.

Iron Maiden - Brave New World: This album doesnt have that bad of a reputation, but alot of people do hate it. I think it is the best maiden album.:worship:

Slayer - God Hates us all: I like it.....................

Black Sabbath: Forbidden (1995). Some very catchy stuff on here, overlooked by Sabbath purists and people who were sick of the revolving door lineup. Any album that has a song as good as "I Won't Cry For You" on it must NOT be forgotten.

Van Halen III (1998). Okay, so it ain't Dave or Sammy, but have we all forgotten the main focus of VH is Eddie's guitar work? I grant you this one takes a while to get into.

Maiden: VXI (1998). Too long and badly produced, but still more than its fair share of classics. "Lightning Strikes Twice," people! Go and listen to it right now.

Union: S/T (1998), Live in the Galaxy (1999) and "The Blue Room" (2000). Bruce Kulick, John Corabi and a powerful combination of 80s stadium rock with Soundgarden style production. Why weren't these guys huge?

KISS: Music From The Elder (1981) and Crazy Nights (1987). The former is the best 42 minutes of music ever put onto vinyl. For the latter, see Trent's comments and add the following from Paul Stanley. "If it looks like KISS and sounds like KISS, it is KISS."

Judas Priest: Jugulator (1997). My only problem with this is the 'orrible lyrics, but Ripper's delivery almost makes up for them.

Dio-Strange Highways
Never held as a favorite, yet never really hated, it's just....there. I really don't see why it's forgotten, because i hold it as my second favorite Dio album(after Holy Diver).
Megadeth-Youthanasia
A great album! It's really the same situation as Strange Highways, not hated, but merely forgotten. A shame too, it's a mighty fine album.
Judas Priest-Point Of Entry
OK, so no one else dug the 70's classic rock feel of it! Well, i did. As a matter of fact, this album is the home of one of my favorite Priest songs ever in "Heading Out To The Highway". It's also got some other good tunes like "Solar Angels","Desert Plains", "Hot Rockin'" and "Don't Go". I thought it was alright, but it's not bad.
Queensryche-Hear In The Now Frontier
See, everyone expects them to stay true to the Mindcrime and Empire sounds, and when they do something different, they get burned for it. Well, sorry to break it to ya, but Queensryche is a PROGRESSIVE metal band, and the name of the game for both progressive rock and progressive metal is to be artsy and never, EVER be afraid of trying new things , evolve, and add some tweaks to your sound. As a matter of fact, it's encouaged. So, when the Ryche decided to fuse metal, progressive rock, alternative rock and a Beatle-esque flavor, it was frowned upon, because it wasn't Mindcrime or Empire, but for what it is, i thought it was pretty good.
Death-Spiritual Healing
Often looked at as being sloppy and un-focused, this is actually a rather good album and it planted the seeds for their finer moments. Hell, i'd put this album in high regard just for the godly title track!
Overkill-Taking Over
Never mentioned, even among Overkill fans, their sophmore release happens to be one of their tightest and most focused albums, as well as one of their catchiest..IMO, anyway.
Def Leppard-Hysteria
You might be wondering why this is on here, since the press and hardcore and casual Leppard fans alike all hail this as one of the best albums of the 80's. Well, metalheads don't think so, as a matter of fact, i've noticed it's somewhat hated among the metalhead world and yes, it's got a very polished production and the drum machine just adds to the poppiness and it's not as riffy or as overall heavy as their first three albums, but hell, it's as catchy as fuck!!!! This album actually has some rather decent tunes that can prove to be as catchy as a cold, if you can forget about the polished sound. I still prefer "Pyromania" and "High And Dry", but this album is not all that bad.

Yes. Hysteria is :) First Skid Row album and 1978 by Whitesnake however are not :) Still great though of course :worship:

Silly boy :)

SECOND Skid Row album ( :worship: ) KILLS it. Yes, I would agree, first? Nope...

Both of the first 2 Skid Row albums kill it.

Just look what's on the debut: Big Guns, Can't Stand The Heartache, Sweet Little Sister, 18 & Life, Youth Gone Wild, Here I Am, I Remember You, Midnight/Tornado, Piece Of Me, Rattlesnake Shake.... I mean there's not a weak spot on the whole album! There are plenty of weak spots on Appetite For Destruction.

And there's not much on Appetite that can compete with the likes of Here I Go Again, Still Of The Night, Cryin' In The Rain, Give Me All Your Love, Is This Love etc either. Let alone every single track on the flawless Back For The Attack!

Sorry, no they're not. :)

But it's all a matter of opinion, isn't it? I would listen to Appetite over any of those albums you've named.
Even if you don't agree though, you'd have to say it's better than this review of it I found at Amazon:

"Just like many other albums (such as the Goo Goo Dolls' "Dizzy up the Girl" and Bush's "Sixteen Stone"), the hits on this album are excellent, Hall-of-fame type material, but all the other songs aren't that great. I would reccomend just burning a CD with Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, and Sweet Child O' Mine on it. Those are their three hits, and the only songs worth listening too. Unless you really think that you'll like it, don't bother spending your money on this CD based on the songs you hear on the radio. My Michelle is a decent song, though."

This is one of the worst reviews I've ever seen. :erk:
