I think you've covered a lot of what I would have said off the top of my head. For Opeth I agree, BWP is great. Have you heard the crispy remaster of Reign In Blood?

No, but I don't understand why albums produced in 1986, 1988 and 1990 (speaking of Slayer) still sound better than the albums that they produced afterwards !

Ironic that your username is death to false metal, seeing this list. Well anyway -1 for listing Metallica black album (multiple tracks don't require any talent at all), plus Carcass' hearwork did not have good production imo. Are you kidding about Micheal Jackson and..... Limp Biscuit. LMFAO @ Seal and Prodigy and U2 etc... I give up

LMFAO!

That's beyond impossible and completely ridiculous. Do you know how much hard drive space that would take up if the software even allowed that? And tape definitely wouldn't either. I think with ProTools now you can get 128 tracks at the most, and those are only virtual tracks, meaning you can't play them all back at the same time. Sure you can bounce tracks, but then the quality degrades each time, so why not just NOT track that many times? And that album was done in the early 90's. Good luck with your classic Pentium or old school Macintosh

And what's the point in tracking an instrument that much anyways? You can only make it sound so wide. After that, what's the point? Why not just turn up the gain on the track?

You mean in terms of production or just in the sense that those unholy three are Slayer's best albums? I haven't even heard much after that except God Hates Us All, but the production seemed OK on that even if the music wasn't as good. RiB unrematered sounds like mush after hearing the remaster, although it is obviously untouchably great anyway.

I slightly regret that MAYH doesn't have a better sound. I love the music, but always feel like it sounds as if it's coming from the next room or something.

I poorly expressed myself, I wanted to say that the band did 7 million takes for each song and that each song is made of these different takes !
And in thise times, records weren't done with computers and all of the black Album was cut old fashionned style ( see the A Year and A half documentary )
They took nine months to record this fucker, more than Dark Side of The Moon !

I love the production on these three slayer album so much especially Dave Lombardo's drumkit. You can hear every tom rolls perfectly !

Regarding Opeth first Three albums, I would like them to re record them even if i know that the Opeth hardcore police fans will say that the production of these albums is what make them special and that a polished sound would change the vibe of those albums !

Yeah that's cool, I was hoping that was the case. :headbang: I didn't wanna seem like I was ragging on ya, but I just couldn't resist replying to that one. There's way too much flaming on forums though.

Nine months. Axl Rose still has them owned lol. 13 years and counting.
Edit: Or maybe Brian Wilson hahaha.

And believe it or not, computers were being used for recording even back then. The prototype for ProTools was developed in the late 80's. But if Metallica used tape for that one, that proves my point indefinitely.

I agree with a lot of your choices. A lot of them do have great sound.

I'd post mine but I wouldn't know where to start.

Just off hand...

Blackmore's Night - Ghost of a Rose
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Testament - The Gathering
Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer
Iommi - Fused
HammerFall - Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle Earth

Awesome drums, completely agree. If you want double troll points with the early Opeth police you should probably recommend that Steve Wilson produce the recording too.

I would love that as well! Wished for it a thousand times. The first two albums for sure sound terrible. I love the sound of MAYH personally. Yeah it's muddy, but it just sounds evil to me. The guitar tone on Orchid and Morningrise turns my stomach. I can't listen to it for long periods.

Yeah, but I think Demon of the Fall with BWP-type impact would be a very good thing indeed.
