Anyone else realise that in the pic of the super treated room the computer monitor right in front of the speaker!
Teach me please, Ermin!
is it talent? or we can achive by practice? or both
that's why my mix seems so muddy
Nice find, thanks! It's kinda like knowing more or less which note an instrument is playing, it's not perfect pitch, not even close, but you need some time to learn it.

this is for monitor/foh engineers, it's not the same thing. But it might teach your ears/mind a few new tricks.
I have to call shenanigans on that photo - one of the speakers appears to be flipped, and all the lights have identical lens flares.

Apparently it's kind of unsettling to be in there for any great length of time, according to some people who have worked in there.

It's Studio C. They've put in an SSL now though.

George: ....I think you can pick out a couple of peaks, I can hear one at...
Me: *mind flash tells me 2kHz*
George: '2k'
Me: Profit!
Legendary guy, no doubt. Glad to see this habit of 'singing' frequencies isn't a quirk I've developed, but actually in use by some fairly amazing guys out there too. His method is very familiar, which is awesome, but he makes it sound so great with so little processing. True golden ears.
I was wondering where Andy got that picture from when he posted it on Facebook
I should have known haha
Actually many speakers have mirrored driver layouts for left and right sides. You'll notice if you look that the centre speaker is different again, with vertically-aligned drivers.
The lens flares aren't identical either, if you look closely. That effect is got with a filter on the camera lens.

George Massenburg
This is his room.
It's on an adjustable arm so you can move it all around. It's a promo shot Digidesign put out when the room was brand new as a "check out GM's new room w/ our new control surface." They probably put the lcd there for composition reasonsm but it's also possible that it isn't blocking the monitor at all if you're sitting in the mix position. Either way, this is a promo shot and not a session so there's no point in getting too hung up on it.Excuse my ignorance, but why is that lcd screen blocking the right channel monitor?
