Was a very good gig. I was right up at the front, pretty much right in front of Mike. I was very happy that they played "Under The Weeping Moon". I really got into that song even though I felt like I was the only one actually getting into it at the front. I don't know why that song just brought out a lot of emotion in me which was cool but weird.
I felt like Martin was a bit too loud and Peter was a bit too soft. When Peter's solos came in it seemed way too quiet. Mike was perfect although his mic seemed to fail him at times or maybe he was too far away from it. The sound from the drums was the best I've ever heard at an Opeth gig (and I mean the sound, not the actual playing, just to clear that up). Per seemed to be a tad bit drowned out at times (to the point that I couldn't hear him at all) and I could sometimes barely hear his harmonies with Mike.
Also, has anyone noticed that Mike seems to sing in a higher pitched voice now or was it just the sound setup? Wasn't very noticeable on the newer songs, but on the older ones, he seemed too high pitched on the vocals and it made it seem less...sorrowful or something. Still good though.
I think this was the best Opeth gig I've ever been to, and I've been to at least 6 or 7 of them over the past 4 1/2 years. They seem to have become a much more polished live band and Mike seems happier and more lively now.
One thing I'm disappointed with is at the end when they started throwing stuff out to the audience, I dropped my hat and looked down to see where it fell, and when I looked up Peter had just thrown his pick and was looking straight at me. I think I missed an opportunity of Peter throwing his pick directly at me.
Also missed Lopez being there. He's one of my favourite drummers. I hope he's doing better.
