American groups/artists versus British groups/artists

if you took this on a per head of population basis, thin lizzy and U2 basically win it for ireland. :D

pfft led zepplin, they just nicked american blues. literally in some instances. same with mick n keef
They took their influences from American blues, but whereas American blues just stuck with American blues, Leppelin came up with No Quarter, Stairway To Heaven, Achilles Last Stand etc / Stones did Gimme Shelter, Paint it Black, 2,000 Light Years From Home which are all awe-inspiring godly tracks which American blues artists would have no idea how to write and execute because theyre all still doing the same shit they were doing 30 years ago with no indication that theyll ever divert from type.

True, admittedly Led Zeppelin's "Lemon song" was a reworking of Howlin' Wolf's "Killing Floor".But if you ever heard the original there is no comparison.
Same goes for Jimi Hendrix,he did the same song.
Same goes for Cream.Their cover of Robert Johnson's "Crossroads" was nothing like the original.

point being no American blues or American rock n roll -no zepplin, no stones, no anything. their music is no more "british" than riverdance is "irish".

That and the fact that zepplin had a habit of nicking ideas from people but never crediting them and then being hailed as innovators. ie the various songs they never credited to their original writers or jimmy page and his "ground breaking" use of a violin bow. They wrote some good songs but i could never stand em as a band, damn hippies
