Valhall Awaits Me -- OK (horrible thin tinny guitar on the verse, why not a wall of sound as per norm??) Not a good start....

Runes to my Memory -- Good (perhaps it's a track AA could throw together in 5 mins, but that melody around the chorus is great / epic)

Asator -- Good (should have been the opening track on the album)

Hermod's Ride -- Excellent (now we're talking...this is more like it. The last third of the song sounds like AA from the early days, with a hint of mid-era In Flames. Great stuff).

Gods of War Arise -- Excellent (sounds very much like a Versus the World era track....great chorus, great melody)

With Oden on our Side -- OK (just an average AA song at best)

Cry of the Black Birds -- OK to Good (a little repetitive after a while)

Under the Northern Star -- Excellent (wow, a distinct Katatonia-like melody running throughout...quite melancholic....really like this)

Prediction of Warfare -- OK (another average AA song, something they could have pulled out of their ass in 30 seconds flat)

4 OK songs.

2 good songs.

3 excellent songs.

Better than Fate of Norns and The Crusher anyway. It's a very good effort overall.

8/10

I cant fucking wait for this album.

Hermod's Ride -- Excellent (now we're talking...this is more like it. The last third of the song sounds like AA from the early days, with a hint of mid-era In Flames. Great stuff).

If its similar in style to Sound Of Eight Hooves or Without Fear witht he Inflames style thing going on then this will be one of my favs.

wall of sound = victorious march = the song played at my funeral because its one of the most empowering songs ever written in human existence and its amazing.

"Fate of Norns" is pretty cool and, imo, distinct from other AA albums.

I don't think it's actually possible for Amon Amarth to make a bad album. They may never do another Once Sent..., but pretty much everything has been at least enjoyable, and they show no signs of straying from the formula any more than is needed to not get boring.

I agree with that. :kickass:
