hey guys,

today i received my new jet city 100h, and i decided to do a little reamping session with all of my other amps - engl fireball 100, marshall jvm 210h, and marshall valvestate 8100.

common signal chain for all these clips was:

lassemago DI -> radial Xamp -> amp -> framus 212cs with v30s -> sm57 -> rme fireface
all of these clips are completely raw, zero post processing except for the marshall 8100 clip which has a 1,5db boost at 750hz....the raw track sounded like ass for some reason.

boost on the JCA boosted clip is a boss sd-1.

keep in mind that i didn't spend too much time on either of these tones, so this is by far not the absolute best they can sound with that particular backing track......it was a pretty quick reamping session.

anyways, here are the clips:

have fun, comments will be greatly appreciated!

Man, those Engl clips and Jet City sound pretty close (on one listen each, consecutively).
The boost makes a really nice difference between the JCs too.

the JVM sounds the worst and Engl / JC best.

the JetCity samples definitely have the presence award. the 8100 was thin, and Engl had a little too much low-end for my taste. the JVM seem to have more 'saturation' then the rest, but if it were me - i'd probably go with one of the JetCity.

thanks for the input!

i have to say, based on the raw clips i dig the jvm the most. once i started doing some post processing EQ the engl actually became my favorite, but that might very well be the backing track intrigueing me as it just calls for a polished modern metal sound, and that's exactly what the engl does.
i haven't found any use for the 8100 yet, it doesn't sound that good as the only amp unless you play something like pantera (i still wonder how chuck got his to sound that good :D ), but i guess it'll blend great with a tube head.
the jvm and jca both have some squish going on, with the jvm being the more modern sounding amp, fatter tone. on the other hand, especially the jca just oozes character, especially in the room, whereas the engl just sounds boring in comparison.

i'll do another set of reamps with some quad tracked DIs when i have some spare time left.
in retrospective i think i should have spent more time trying to get all of them to sound more polished and modern, but then again that's not the character of the JCA or the JVM (to a lesser extent).

Jet City and engl sound really good ....dont want to go off topic...... just wondering which one of these amps records well with the volume on 1 (bedroom levels)?

so, any hints how to improve the sound?

my reamps tend to be a bit on the fizzy side as i like my guitars bright and sharp, so this time i tried to focus on the midrange....

I think the difference between these amps are noticable but if you think about music from the listeners point of view I'd say they are equally good. I preferred the Engl and JVM though.

How to improve... well I suggest you get a better cab if you want to seriously reamp stuff. 4x12 cab is a must I guess. Marshall 1960BV would be my choice at the moment. Other good options are Bogner cabs and Orange cabs (which I own right now). Mesa is and industry standard in this game but I feel that it's overrated. It sounds extremely muffled when compared to other 4x12 V30 cabinets.

got an 1960AV and an engl with v60s in the rehearsal space. the 212 is just for home use and just for fun reamping stuff

the 8100 didn't do it for me....fireball as well, tho it sounded better than any reamp experience I had with one so far (was a 60 tho).

JVM and Jetcity sound really cool!
A bit boomy maybe, but I totally dig it

ok, did a few more reamps and spent a bit more time on these too.....
this time its the narcosynthesis DI, so i can compare some blending option.

signal chain basically the same as for the clips above.
jet city and marshall were boosted with a tubescreamer, engl is straight in - the bloody thing just sounds so congested with the TS midrange bump....

once again these are completely raw, just hp/lp at 60/12k respectively, and some multiband comp on the engl because the low end was jumping all over the place on those low chugs.

anyways, no more talks, here are the clips:

tell me what you think!

^ I preferred the JVM out of those ones, with the jet city being a VERY close second

Didn't care for the engl much which surprised me a bit.

I seem to be a real sucker for the jet city amp range. So far I've liked every recorded example I've heard of them. I also thoroughly enjoy the 20h I use alongside a 6505.

In these examples I also liked the jet city best, altough the JVM is very close and has its merrits too (sounds a bit more organic?). I think the weakest point of the jet city amps is that they really don't have a huge low end. I don't mind that though. Gives the bassguitar some more room to work with.

Oh, and I didn't like the Engl at all here for some reason.

yes, the jet city sounds very close to the jvm - under the mic at least. surprises me every time, since they sound nothing alike in the room and have a completely different feel. it's quite strange, the jet city actually sounds more lower midrange oriented than the marshall, yet the latter is much fatter under the mic.
overall i dig the jvm more though, even recorded. i had the bass on the jca dimed for this one and it's not nearly as full as the marshall (bass 6 resonance 7 on that one).

i don't like the engl either, btw. there's just no higher midrange cut no matter what you do EQ wise.
it's a nice amp for blending though. thickens up the sound while still retaining note definition.

Love the JVM and the Jet City. Not so keen on the Engl, though it blends pretty nicely with the Marshall. JVM is the best sound for that song out of these 3 I think.

Dude the JVM and JetCity sound tits! :kickass:
Even without the boost I like it. I guess my ears are so used to hearing boosted amps that it's refreshing to the ears.

The Engl's were uhm... :puke:

Anyways nice shares.
