amps/heads/processors/shit like that

Hi everyone!
This is another of my question threads.
What amp or head/cab config would you guys recommend for great tone, volume for band practice under 1000$. Also is is possible to buy a fat ass cab and use a POD or GT8 as a head? If the gt8/pod thing is possible, do i need something like a poweramp/preamp between the pod/gt8 and the cab.

you'd need a power amp yes. and deactivate the cab sim on the pod.

If you want tube, a 5150 combo.

If you like solid state (like I do, as I hate those goddamn overglorified light bulbs) check out Randall, Crate's mid-higher end stuff (i.e. not the cheap beginner amps, their XT series on Musicians Friend or their GTX), or just go POD.
