So gals and guys Europe is definitely on the to do list within the next year or two, depending on when I can manage to get a 10/hr ish paying job.

The first trip will most likely be with one of my lady friends whom I've known since the 6th grade and beyond and this will just to be to scope the cities out and be a tourist with a lot job hunting involved.. if I can manage it, this'll be like a 30 day trip so probably during the summer.

If I manage to get a job I would be absolutely tempted to stay after I finish my associates degrees (note that I already have a BA) in recording engineer, music performance, pre-music, etc. This is the reason for the a possible two trips because I'll still be in college for another year or two at least.

So right now what I'm trying to do is a least try to do some research for this trip. I'm trying to find some helpful and legit sites. Legit apartment/flat search would be good for starters. I've already seen some nice prices for studio apartments but I dunno if the sites I've been using are legit. Also, as I've never purchased my own plane tickets before, what would be good/legit sites for plane tickets?

Anything else, which I'm sure there is probably a lot, that I could look into?

I always fly Air Swiss or Luftansa when I go to Europe. Good prices, and they're very nice. British Airways is cool, but expensive.

If you have the ability, stop off at Tarragona in the winter, when the oranges are in season. :) They have a Roman coliseum, and you can actually walk around it because it's not as busy as the one in Rome.

Cheers, will check it out.

I may be stating the obvious, but you must obtain a working visa in order to get a job abroad. I lived in Spain for 5 months, and while a part-time job would have been perfect for additional travel funds & pocket change, I never messed with all of the red tape of obtaining the visa needed. Best of luck.

I was going to bring this up... you can't just "pack your things and move to Europe" without taking care of the proper bureaucratic stuff beforehand. A visa for tourism purposes may not be needed, but to stay there and work it's an entirely different story. Might want to clear that first. :)

Visas noted. I guess I should make it a little more clearer in that I would be mostly scoping out the cities to see what kind of options and see what the job market is like for someone like myself. I'm also interested in things like what community band/orchestras are around and other things that could keep me busy similar to what I do here. I just figured a 30 day trip would give me plenty of timed to do that whereas a 7 day trip would be purely tourism in my eyes. Once I figure out what kind of market there is then I could come back home and hopefully go from there seeing as I still want to finish my degrees before living in europe in the first place.

I don't really have a clear head at the moment due to finals but yeah this is all part of research so any info helps as I've never planned for a trip like this before.

Keep in mind the exchange rate. Everything is about 70% more expensive there. So if you go over there with $100 USD, that will convert to about $588 Euros.

Pounds to dollars converter via google has been my friend for some time now after purchasing cds directly from UK artists :)

Or dollars to euros / viceversa

And $100 would actually be about 67 euros

Europe is big and very diverse - which countries are you thinking about visiting? Which countries did you have in mind for where you'd actually like to live?

Northern Europe (UK, Scandinavia, Germany) are all expensive places to live and to visit

Middle and Southern Europe is more on level w US in terms of how expensive things are

Well, considering I'm a Chelsea lad, I'd like to be able to stay/live close enough to get to Chelsea games (london, just slightly into Fulham) so I guess England would be answering your question and thats pretty much the country in focus atm. I've heard that you can take the subway/train/tube(?) and get to just about any game in about 30 minutes. But i mean here in Greensboro it takes me 1hr 30 minutes to get to Raleigh which is what I did for the Blind Guardian tour so I guess thats about the radius I'm looking... about an 1hr 30min radius from Stamford Bridge (Chelsea's stadium) would be an ideal max for me.

Other the other hand, I'm a Magenta fanboy and they are from Wales but I'm not to concerned about traveling for them as they don't tour/gig often (at least not at the moment anyway) so I'd be good for a half day drive for them... or however long it'd take it to get from say London to wherever they were in Wales.

So your main plan is to move to England mainly because of a soccer team? And that's Chelsea?

Come on lad...

Obviously not :) Its really about job hunting. Thats just the ideal location. Even after I finish up the recording engineer, pre-music major, and music performance major.. theres not much to do here in greensboro/north carolina in the field. Claus might be able to back me up on that, or he could possibly enlighten me.. I'll take either one lol... please note I'm interested in Composing for soundtracks with hopefully making the recording engineer gig the job that pays the bills.

If I'm willing to relocate, I'd like to consider all options. if I can manage to get a job that would pay for a nice/decent apartment/flat in england and there are enough opportunities for me in my field then I'd totally consider attempting to stay in england. But I don't know what the markets like in england so thats why I want to take a shorter trip.. about a month long ideally.

Please don't forget I'm also looking for respectable websites so I could just do some basic apartment research. That'd really be helpful for starters.

Edit: And shame on you, calling the sport soccer. :p

Okay ... that's an interesting way to choose a place of living :)

Not really ... traveling around London on the tube can take a while. London is pretty effin' huge. The "beltline" (or whatever they call the highway that circles London) is gigantic, and getting from point A to B can take hours.

Hehe, nice. This almost beats your other reason for choosing living place.

There's a couple of pretty good studios out in Winston Salem, but that's about it for NC :(
