hahahahahahaha if aaron really said that he must have been trying to cover up the fact that my dying bride copied anathema riffs from our second demo and put it at track one of their first album. andy admitted on the silent enigma tour that they had been copying us for years (and not just us, others too)

mdb have never been a ultra talented band but i can respect them
and ps i wrote most of the music for TSE and duncan wrote the rest and we have never ever ever been influenced in any way by mdb though i admit the cry of mankind is a good track like.

With regards to the copying thing, when I interviewed MDB in 1995, Andy admitted...to quote from the horses mouth:
"Oh yeah, we'll steal ideas, I mean...you'll hear something thats good & think 'thats fuckin brilliant' and I generally say 'I'm having some of that' "
So there we go!

About the whole versus thing.. I got into Anathema & MDB in 1994/95, Angel & the Dark River is still my favourite on the MDB front & nothing they've done has ever topped that. Anathema has progressively got better with every album & tho I still rate Silent Enigma as one of my all time favourites, Natural Disaster is taking over & it's by far the best, just really well put together & not a dodgy track in sight
Live? Only saw MDB the once when they supported Maiden, and they were pretty good (mind you having Maidens sound rig helped I guess), seen Anathema twice, supporting *cough* Moonspell, & supporting PL with Cathedral, Cathedral sucked & Anathema should have been on in 2nd instead! Anathema defininately the better tho!

As far as comparing the two, MDB are the better doom metal band (Turn Loose The Swans and The Angel And The Dark River slay Serenades)

but its a bit weird to compare that 2 MDB albums with serenades, for me they are too different, could be compared with pentecost or s. enigma, and serenades compared with pre turn loose era

I think there is no meaning trying to compare Anathema with mdb or paradiselost. And thats because anathema dont play metal anymore (and that is good in my opinion). Paradise lost some years before start playing electro-pop (depeche mode like) and now they play something like rammstein. I think that pl now is at their lowest point ever.
Mdb after a while became boring because you can hardly find any differences between their albums (e.g dreadful hours and light... are very similar).
So if I had to choose I would go for anathema.
