Any locksmiths/safecrackers on here?

Basically my girlfriend is watching her neighbors house while there on vacation. There is an old safe in the basement that hasn't been opened in over a hundred years (last person to open it hung himself in the same room as it, hasn't been touched since). The lady who's house it belongs to says she doesn't want to open it (in fear that a hex will be put on her lol) but she said we can. She doesn't want to be home when we do it and she comes home tomorrow so tonight is our only night.

Here is a picture of the safe http://i.imgur.com/vPSW4.jpg

I know its a Sargent and Greenleaf lock. The actual dial says "Patt September 18th 1860 January 9th 1866 August 28th 1866 July 14th 1857 Ex. 7 years July 14th 1871" (in that order) The lock has the numbers 20-100 (the space where 1-20 is has nothing labeled or etched in). The dial indicator (the notch to show what number you are on) is an upside down star.

I have called Sergant and Greenleafs customer support all yesterday but they won't even pick up their phones. Basically we have just tonight to open it and we can't damage it. Anybody know if the old stethoscope to the dial and listen for clicks method works? This is such a fun adventure I don't wanna miss out on.

BTW I already called a locksmith, they said it will be about $425 starting, I can barely pay my bills on my salary let alone pay that by means of adventure.

Thanks for any input!

Dude, you want an adventure? Blow that shit up with dynamite and use the remaining hours trying to clean up after it. There's probably a secret tunnel leading to some Spanish pirate treasure underneath the safe.

That's what I'm saying! Except I can't damage it or blow it up or torch it or even break the hinges. ADVENTURE!

And even if a locksmith shows up he might just end up saying "yeah no way that's getting opened with as rusty as it is."

Sorry man, no idea on how to open safes over a 100 years old...

In fact I have no idea how to open a safe that is anything year(s) old.

Haha well I appreciate your efforts not only in my post but this forum as a whole

I think I have the same safe in my office. It looks the same, down to the same wheels and hinges and looks just as old. I bought it from a garage sale for $50. Luckily the owner gave me the combination. But when you open it there is still another lock box inside with a key. The walls of the safe are really thick, probably 4 inches at least because when you open it the compartment inside is much smaller. Anyway good luck trying to get it open, the combination is three separate numbers on mine and I'm not a safe cracker so I have no idea how to do that.

Hate to say , you ain't getting in . I had to get into a safe of a jeweller friend of mine who passed away . Cost a fair bit of money and organisation to get it open . Infact it was a total ball ache , unless you are a pro thief the only way is to go legit and you don't have enough time .

so easy man, left, right, left, left, right, left, right, right, right, left.

alternative to this you could just apply a lockpick in the right angle and then press A or D to turn the lock :)

that's pretty awesome. you could try asking around some locksmiths, telling them what's up and hope they'd be in it for the excitement as well, if not for free maybe for a 1/4 of the price or so. it may be a long shot but that's how it would work in the movies

do keep us posted. the safe might, in fact, just be empty. but who knows?

to keep things bedhesda, i've got a book that increases your lockpicking skills for 30 points for around a minute or so, after that period of time you magically forget everything you just read :loco:
