This was the tribute to Opeth by some crazy fan, whether he was serious or not remains a mystery.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH (DEATH METALS GROWL)
THROUGH BASTARD FIRES MY METAL CHARIOTS GALLOPS
I SEES LIGHT AHEAD WITH EVIL GRINS OF SKELETON MENS
MY TRUSTING SWORDS IN MY FIST I GRASP
I READY TO FIGHT ALL THOSE SKELETON

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH (DEATH METALS GROWL)
NEAR TO ME RIDES MY BEST FRENDS AND THEIR HORSE
THEY ALSO ARE CARRY BIG SWRDS
A SKEKLTON SCREAM AT ME AND TRY TO STEAL MY POWERS
BUT MY CHARIOT IS TOO FAST FOR HIS BONEY LEG

WAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHOOOOHH H
LATERS I COME TO A BIG TREE NEXT TO OTHER BIG TREES
AND SOME SMALLER TREES ASLO
BUT THE BIG TREES ARE BIGGER
I JUMP OFF MY METAL CHARIOTS AND TIE IT TO A TREE
I CLIMBING THE TREE NOW
BITING THE SWORDS WITH MY METAL TOOTHS

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEE
I LOOK BELOWS AT EVIL SKELETON DOGS THAT SNAP AND SNIP AT ME
BUT I FIND CAVE IN TREE WITH SECRET PASSAGES TO HIDE IN
MY FRENDS ARE LOST AND RUN AWAY WITH THEIR HORSE I ALONE
I ADVENTURE IN TREE CAVE

(THIS BIT I HAVE GUITAR SOLOS FOR 3 MINUTE)

(THIS BIT IN DEATH METALS GROWLINGS)

AHHHHH I AM LOST IN A TREE
OOOOOOH I HAVE FEAR OF SKELETON
WAHHHHH I FORGETS MY CHARIOTS
AAAAAAAAH THE BASTARD FIRES IT HAUNT ME

And this is Valhall Awaits Me by Amon Amarth:

Blood gushes from the wound
The cut is wide and deep
Right before I turn around
He falls to his knees
A clear song rings in the blade
When steel meets hardend steel
I hear the sound of wood that breaks
A swords cut through my shield

I drop the shield and grab my axe
*A weapon in each fist
A fierce blow makes the helmet crack
The axe cut to the teeth

I rip the axe from the head
Covered in blood and brains
Leave the body lying dead
Ready to strike again
My sword cuts through clothes and skin
Like a hot knife cuts through snow
I smile as the bastard screams
When I twist my sword

Sword in my hand and axe on my side
Valhall awaits! Soon I will die
Sword in my hand and axe on my side
Valhall awaits me, when I die
Bearskin on my back
Wolfsjaw on my head
Valhall awaits me, when I'm dead

I raise my axe above my head
My eyes turned furious rage
Yet more blood will be shed
This is a victorious day!
Blood gushes from the wound
The cut is wide and deep
As they turn around
I fall to my knees

Sword in my hand and axe on my side
Valhall awaits! Soon I will die
Sword in my hand and axe on my side
Valhall awaits me, when I die
Bearskin on my back
Wolfjaw on my head
Valhall awaits me, when I'm dead!

Discuss.

pretty terrible lyrics and grammar tbh, not seeing much of a link between them though

Well my point was; one of them is a professional band who is writing serious lyrics but the lyrics are on the same level of a lame joke (the first lyrics)..

its amon amarth, a band about viking swedes - what do you expect ftlog

opeth lyrics aren't particularly amazing either folks...metal lyrics in general are pretty retarded ttytt

will the children cry, when their mother dies?
and in the autumn of their lives, will they feel the same?

:erk:sylvania

Still, Opeth lyrics might as well be Shakespeare in comparison to Amon Amarth lyrics. And knowing Amon Amarth, their lyrics are probably their strong point.

opeth had amazing lyrics on mayh, sl, bp and damnation...and on a few separate songs later on

Well yea some of them were good but others, like in the first half of Godhead's Lament, the lyrics are just meandering gibberish; sadly though, that's how some people define good lyrics...cuz obviously if you can't understand it, it's probably too philosophical and deep.

Whoa, I also thought Opeth's lyrics are very good. April Ethereal, the passage after chorus in Demon of the Fall, most of the Still Life, When, Blackwater Park and many many others actually. Mikael is not Shakespeare but it is not wise to expect him to be so.. (also compare him to other metal bands out there, Amon Amarth :erk:)

Edit: It may be about Viking Swedes but that does not necessarily mean it should be lame like this, I dont know I would expect something better, maybe mythical or historical.. But after they write the lyrics and read it I really wonder how they feel. Is it like "uh we should spill some more blood here eheh"?

i personally don't care about lyrics, as long as the song sounds good that's all that matters

hardly. what has opeth's lyrics got to do with philosophy?

SL and MAYH are good concept albums with strong storylines. some small bits here and there in songs are hard to decipher and very obscure (but thats evident in MANY songs...in leonard cohen's, REM's, radiohead's etc. thats the price you pay for being literary and poetic!) but overall the concepts are very solid.

Seriously, that Amon Amarth song is among one of the best they've done. :kickass: Nothing to do with that kick ass tribute to Opeth song except the fact that they both kick ass. The actual cover of the Tribute song sucks, however. Fantastic lyrics.

Amon Amarth is known for these kind of lyrics. Every songs talks about (many of these, or maybe just one):

- Viking going to war
- Viking fighting with his sword/axe
- Viking getting killed to war
- Viking and his army
- Viking travelling on his Drakkar
- Viking getting buried and honour
- Viking called by the Gods
- Viking watching his blood pouring
- Viking crushing some heads
- Viking telling mythologic stories
- NEW : Viking fighting huge dragons

I kind of agree, but I still expect the lyrics not to be totally embarrassing.

In fact, those Amon Amarth lyrics are easily worse than the one's done by TOP_OPTH_FAN, basically because they're not even remotely funny, just lame and sad.
