I caught the tour in San Diego but it was only Overkill, AE, Opeth, LOG and then Mega-Dave due to the arena curfew. AE was solid as usual and you can tell all of their recent touring has made them pretty tight. Opeth only got 3 songs, but showed a lot of balls playing "Windowpane" in front of an audience just waiting to go nuts in the pit for LOG. Their set was one of the few times you could actually hear all the guitar notes and lyrics in a big arena. My main reason to go was for LOG, and they really stepped up to headliner status fresh off the Slayer tour. It was inhumanly loud and tight and a metalhead's dream....bass drums that pound you in the middle of the chest and pure energy from the start. Randy isn't much more than a scremer, but he knows how to work the crowd and when to whip them into a frenzy for all the best mosh riffs. Mega-Dave and company was sort of a letdown after LOG....you could just feel the wind get sucked out of the arena after LOG crushed, and Dave and company just didn't have the ability to bring the energy level back up. They all played capably and it was nice to hear "Wake up Dead" and "Holy Wars" but I couldn't help but feel it was like metal karaoke. The ticket price is definitely worth it for so many good bands, but I would have liked to catch Into Eternity as part of it. You should have a good time!
