You buy a cd and the teeth that make up the center circle that hold the cd in place arrive broken?

As much as I enjoy purchasing physical cd's from bands I want to check out, I received 3 cd's today and every single one had broken plastic "circle teeth" to the extent that you open the cd jewel case and the cd falls right out to the floor.

Certainly a legit reason to mull over going digital with my music collection.

:hotjump:

Jewel cases in general are just cheap as ass looking. All that plastic, yuk.

Last three albums I got were digipaks. The original pressing of Dawn's "Slaughtersun", and a couple of Manilla Road digis. Now granted, this doesn't solve the problem necessarily for broken jewel case teeth since they both use that same mechanism, but at least the digipak looks nicer at the end of the day, broken teeth or not. Digipacks can look nicer, but they can also look like complete arse after sitting under a pile of cd's for months at a time.

Plus, jewel cases (if not stepped on or damaged in shipping) survive the elements of time better than digipacks do. Digipacks tend to wither like 60 year old pussy.

yeah, i love it when I get a digi and the teeth are broken and I can't replace the teeth like i can with a jewel case. i hate common sense.

I've never seen a digipak with broken teeth. I imagine I'd be pretty pissed, but I rarely replace regular cases anyhow. I just stare at them, say GOD DAMMIT!!! then stare at my huge pile of perfectly okay empty jewel cases, say GOD DAMMIT!!! then go back to eating my potato.

my Chasm - Procession and Geasa - ANgel's Cry are missing some teeth, so I have to lay the CDs flat lest the CD just fall right out. with jewel cases, I wouldn't have that problem. COmmon sense prevails yet again

I like Digipacks, but I dont like the monsterously huge, mishapen ones (ala King Diamonds "The Puppet Master").

You mean, double digipaks? Isn't that just the same as having two cases put together?

Talk about redundant: Nokturnal Mortum's "Taste of Victory"...in a DVD case...no inlay. Stupid crakkkers.

HAHAHAHA

I just got one in the mail today that was broken too, lol. That's why the black plastic ones are so much better than the clear ones. Besides the fact that the clear ones allow the tray inlay to have artwork. :(

My Spirit The Earth Aflame is like that. Pisses me off

We should set up trades where you guys hand me your digipaks and I give back the equivalent in jew case.

Honestly, if I could replace every single jew case I had with a digi, I'd do it in a hearbeat. Some of the handmade ones from Prophecy are stunning.

How about you fuckers list all the digipaks you've got, and I'll see if I have the equivalent in jewel case bought at Staples.

Can't say I've got a single broken digi. I admit, that Manes Vilosophe plastic fell off, but I just glued the cunt right back on.

As much as I love the cd, Manticora's Roots of Eternity is the single worst digipack I've ever seen. The packaging is complete shit - the inlay booklet is glued to the inside cover which fell apart after about a month, and the rest of the packaging after 5 years looks like those old World War II newspapers your grandfather keeps in a musty corner of his shit-hole of a basement.

The Glorious Burden is another example (though I love the artwork) - there is NO PLACE TO PUT THE INLAY BOOKLET - ARGHH!!!!!

Is it really just double? I really never thought about it, I just looked over and noticed how it bulged out of the rack of CD's. I would investigate but I dont feel like getting up.

Agreed. The packaging may look really nice, but it's EXTREMELY difficult to find an easy place to store the off-sized digi's. The 'n Crudu Bradului box is another example.

Yeah, they're just double. I paid EXTRA just to get the Primordial in digipak format (granted it comes with that excellent "making of" documentary with the girl and the violin, and Noel Redding's Orange bass amp etc) and it's also double in width.

If you have a CD rack that contains slots for CD cases, then you're fucked. CD shelving should be like book shelving. Just stack them together, 1-2-3.
